Volunteers are needed to help with the daily care of the dogs. Two shifts operate daily, one in the morning, and one in the evening. Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age.
Anyone interested in volunteering must attend a one-time orientation. Orientations are offered throughout the month and provide information about the shelter as well as the procedures we follow.
The time commitment is about 3 hours per day, but the actual hours can vary based on your schedule. Even a couple of hours donated weekly or bi-monthly can really help! All of our dogs are monitored for extra time with volunteers: walks, home visits, trips to the park, quiet time, care rides, training, grooming, and most important – snuggle time. Special attention is paid to our “Long Term Residents” or Golden Oldies. These are dogs that have been at STAF for over a year. We make an extra effort to get them out and about for different off-site activities at least 20 times per month.
Volunteers should be of general good health as they will need to be able to mop and bend over to fill food and water bowls. Light lifting is required.
