Company Description

TechnoServe is a nonprofit economic development organization founded in 1968 that works with enterprising people in the developing world to build competitive farms, businesses, and industries. Our programs develop the capacity of individuals and businesses, strengthen market systems, and facilitate the development of emerging industries that can serve as economic drivers in developing communities.

Our goal: to create sustainable economic growth that helps impoverished individuals improve their lives and secure a better future for their families.

TechnoServe has offices in nearly 30 countries across the United States, Latin America, Africa, and Southeast Asia, as well as in London.

Program Overview

TechnoServe is seeking qualified candidates to join our Fellows Program. Fellows take part in field-based projects ranging from 3 to 12 months in which they engage directly with entrepreneurs, industry experts, TechnoServe field staff, and other stakeholders.

Fellows have the opportunity to lead projects in areas such as business plan development, industry analysis and strategy, financial analysis, and capital raising. A typical project might be conducting an Industry Strategic Plan (ISP). ISPs are a standard part of our approach to assessing the potential competitiveness, opportunities, challenges and key success factors in a given sector at both the country and regional levels.

Read more about the program and sample projects here: https://www.technoserve.org/get-involved/fellows-program.

We review Fellow applications for our general candidate database on a rolling basis, and encourage qualified, enthusiastic candidates – especially those with French and/or Spanish fluency – to apply.

Current Openings

Current opportunities exist in Africa and India, with some projects being remote and others field-based. In particular, we wish to highlight the following roles for which we are actively recruiting:

Tanzania Horticulture Strategic Planning - Lead the development of a horticulture industry strategic plan (ISP) for Tanzania. The ISP is a critical document that will inform TechnoServe’s horticulture strategy in Tanzania for years to come, including design of future projects and partnership development. The Fellow will conduct industry analysis, create a financial model, and craft an industry business plan for TechnoServe. (Based in Tanzania, 3 months)

Green Growth Toolkit Creation - Develop a Green Growth package that serves as a guide for TechnoServe's Entrepreneurship Program teams across the globe and contains the tools for each type of beneficiary segment, as well as the explanation for their effective transfer to the beneficiaries and their practical use and adoption. (Remote-based - 2-3 months)

Agri-SMEs Technical Assistance Training - Test TechnoServe's Technical Assistance (TA) approach for Agri-SMEs to inform scale up. Our aim is to revolutionize the way TA is delivered to agri-SMEs in Africa. TechnoServe’s agri-SME technical assistance will focus on core business support for agri-SMEs in the growth segment. The Fellow will develop and deliver training content to agri-SMEs in Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda and monitor, evaluate, and obtain lessons learned during the pilot. (Remote-based, 6-7 months, *minimum compensation may be available for those with US work authorization and who are working from the US)

Uganda Vanilla Strategic Planning & Pitch - Develop a strategic plan for the vanilla industry in Uganda. The Fellow will conduct local, regional and international market analysis for potential agroforestry system crops to support strategies for diversification in mixed cropping systems. Additionally, the Fellow will support the Uganda Vanilla Exporter's Association to develop an analysis-based pitch and marketing materials to promote vanilla's potential economic impact and promote investment in vanilla production by public and private actors. (Based in Uganda, 3-4 months)

India Business Accelerator Advisor - Select and coach 20 high-potential women entrepreneurs to scale their businesses in India. As part of an accelerator program, the Fellow will assist the entrepreneurs on identifying areas for intervention, creating business plans and improving access to markets, capital and information. (Remote-based, 3-4 months)
