Housing Works operates 9 thrift stores and a Bookstore & Cafe with the help of its selfless volunteers. We have 8 locations, including the Bookstore & Cafe in Manhattan and 2 in Brooklyn.

This posting is for our Chelsea, our flagship thrift shop located at 143 W 17th St, please apply if you have a different location you would like to volunteer for. Our thrift stores help generate revenue that provides funding for Housing Works' healthcare and housing programs.

Volunteering Details (Note: You must be 18+ to volunteer for Housing Works)

When you volunteer for one of our stores, you play a pivotal role on the team as a:

• Category Expert: Most of our volunteers pick 2 kinds of items we have donated to our stores, like literature and housewares, to focus on as their subject expertise and assist our customers with.
• Merchandiser: You'll take point in keeping our departments organized and neat with your own creative style!
• Donations Pricing & Processing: You'll play an important role in getting items out onto the sales floor.
