    Executive Director (Part-Time)

    Position Title: Volunteer Executive Director (Part-Time)

    Organization: Vet Treks Foundation

    Location: Remote with occasional travel

    Time Commitment: Approximately 20 hours per month (0-5 hours per week* with an increase in hours leading up to each campaign trip 1 to 2x/year)

    Compensation: Small monthly stipend available; plus potential to earn a percentage of funds raised after meeting a minimum fundraising goal (goal TBD); plus free/sponsored travel to international partner country destinations.

    Overview

    The Volunteer Executive Director (ED) is a pivotal leadership role within Vet Treks Foundation, responsible for overseeing the overall strategic direction, operational management, and fundraising activities of the organization. The ED works closely with the Board of Directors, and volunteers to further Vet Treks' mission of building veterinary capacity in underserved areas through veterinary education and the provision of essential implements of practice to local veterinarians.

    Vet Treks Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to improving animal welfare and public health in underserved areas through veterinary education and the provision of essential veterinary services.

    Mission: Building veterinary capacity in underserved areas through veterinary education and the provision of essential implements of practice to local veterinarians.

    Vision: A planet where all animals have the veterinary care they need and where the public health and economic benefits of a healthy animal population are realized in developing communities.

    Key Responsibilities

    1. Strategic Leadership:

      • Develop and implement strategic plans that align with the organization's mission and goals.
      • Collaborate with the Board of Directors to refine and execute Vet Treks' vision.
      • Ensure the organization’s sustainability through effective leadership, fundraising and management practices.
      • Work closely with the Board of Directors to ensure effective governance and organizational oversight.
      • Provide regular updates and reports to the board on organizational performance and strategic initiatives.

    2. Fundraising and Financial Management:

      • Lead fundraising efforts, including grant writing, donor relations, and events, to meet or exceed fundraising goals.
      • Oversee the organization’s financial health, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
      • Explore and implement new fundraising strategies, ensuring diversified revenue streams.
      • Update and manage CRM

    3. Program Development and Management:

    • Supervise the planning, implementation, and evaluation of Vet Treks' programs and services.
    • Work closely with Medical and Trip Leads to ensure successful veterinary service trips
    • Provide tactical support (as needed) to Medical and Trip Leads before during and following Vet Treks’ annual campaign trip (approximately 1 to 2 times/year).
    • Trip Leads are responsible for the following and the ED role may be called upon to provide additional support for the below activities:
      • Maintain and develop partnerships with local and international organizations, governments, and other stakeholders.
      • Oversee the logistical planning of trips including:
        • Determining the projected number of surgeries and vaccines.
        • Coordinating with destination country partners for supply purchases.
        • Ensuring timely collection and accounting of trip fees.
        • Booking and confirming accommodations, transportation, and local attractions.
        • Provide pre-trip communications, including travel information, packing lists, and cultural/destination information.
        • Recruit lecturers and prepare lectures for CPD trainings.
        • Manage the distribution of supplies to US participants and track expenditures during campaigns.
      • Supervising day-to-day communications and troubleshooting during trips.

    4. Communication and Outreach:

      • Serve as the primary spokesperson for the organization, representing Vet Treks to various audiences including donors, partners, and the media.
      • Develop and implement communication strategies to increase awareness and engagement.
      • Foster a positive public image to expand Vet Treks' impact and reach.

    Qualifications

      • Demonstrated passion for Vet Treks’ mission and vision.
      • Proven experience in nonprofit management, fundraising, and strategic planning.
      • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to inspire and motivate others.
      • Excellent communication and public speaking skills.
      • Financial acumen and experience in budgeting and financial management.
      • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work effectively under pressure.
      • Prior experience in animal welfare, international development, or a related field is a plus.
