Math Festival volunteers are a vital part of sharing fun, joyful, hands-on math at a Math Festival. Because of volunteers, a Math Festival is a go-at-your-own-pace event, where students and families can choose to visit whichever activities they want to go to and spend as much or as little time as they'd like at each one. A Math Festival volunteer has 3 main responsibilities:
- Providing clear instructions when students and families walk up to the table
- Cleaning up the stations when they leave
- As much as possible, not giving away any answers
A volunteer training is held one hour before a Math Festival to provide volunteers with the knowledge and skills they'll need to help out at the event. Because of this training, volunteers DO NOT need to have a background in math or math education. We've trained parents, teachers, and older students (as young as 4th and 5th grade) to be Math Festival volunteers. As long as you have an open mind towards math and are excited to share joyful math with students and families, you'll make a perfect Math Festival volunteer.
