IAP Board of Directors: Media and Communications

The Board of Directors of the International Accountability Project (IAP) provides mission-based leadership and strategic governance to the organization. While day-to-day operations are led by IAP’s Executive Director (ED), the Board-ED relationship is a partnership and dedicated involvement by the Board of Directors is critical.

Qualifications

This is an exceptional opportunity for a motivated leader and creative thinker, who is dedicated to IAP’s core mission to support community-led development around the world.

1)    Media and Communications

In addition to providing leadership and strategic governance, the IAP Board of Directors seeks interested candidates with expertise in Media and Communications to advise the organization’s work, specifically:

●     Professional experience with Media and Communications in the fields of business, government, philanthropy or the nonprofit sector

●     Recognized expertise communicating complex topics, for example, human and environmental rights issues, to influence change

●     Connections within the Media and Communications field to further IAP’s mission and programmatic activities

●     A recognized and thoughtful innovator with passion, credibility and a sense of humor.

2)    Leadership and strategic governance

To maintain the successful operations of the organization, all IAP Board Members agree to:

●     Prepare for and participate in quarterly Board Meetings

●     Prepare for and participate in at least one Board Committee

●     Serve as a trusted advisor to the ED to develop and implement IAP’s strategic plan

●     Approve IAP’s annual budget and understand organizational financial statements

●     Contribute to an annual performance evaluation of the ED

●     Assist the ED and Board chair in identifying and recruiting other Board Members

●     Represent IAP to stakeholders, acting as an ambassador for the organization to expand and engage IAP’s community of supporters

Board terms and meetings

IAP Board Members serve up to a three-year term. After considering individual evaluations and the needs of the Board, Board Members can apply for re-appointment.

Board meetings are held quarterly and committee meetings as determined by its members. Current Board Committees include: 1) the Governance Committee; 2) the Finance Committee; and 3) the Fundraising Committee. To better assist the organization, the Board of Directors is creating a Media and Communications Committee.

Fundraising

IAP Board Members agree to raise or contribute an annual contribution that is commensurate with their capacity.

Background
