This is an opportunity for students or graduates looking to do social impact work and consulting for development, as well as to learn Spanish in one of the most historically and culturally interesting parts of the world.
SALTO seeks to transform communities by creating opportunities for families living in a situation of poverty and economic vulnerability. To achieve this, we provide business facilitation and consulting services to farmers and artisans and help them improve the different areas of their business. Many of these farmers only attended a few years of elementary school and are indigenous peoples.
Our consulting teams work with micro-entrepreneurs to help them organise their production, implement cost strategies, develop a brand, implement a marketing campaign and organise their finances. Volunteer Consultants will work with teams of local students and will help one of these entrepreneurs improve one particular area of their business.
The type of role and project will depend on the academic background, level of Spanish fluency and length of stay of the volunteers. Volunteers with no Spanish knowledge will work on marketing and planning related projects. A background in business and economics, or previous experience in consulting is not required.
The Intern will help run the SALTO program over 2022 in different roles. Depending on the level of Spanish language fluency and interests, the intern could potentially be involved in a consulting project for a micro-entrepreneur, a social enterprise (e.g. marketing), and running workshops. The local students would also appreciate it if you could share your experience with them and share inspiring stories. This is a great opportunity for you to learn about development projects, small businesses and to see a different side of Peru. We pride ourselves on our flat management structure, which allows our consultants to shape their experience with us.
All our current funding goes to our projects, where the beneficiaries are the low-income farmers. We are unable to provide subsidies for flights, health insurance, accommodation, or Spanish lessons; however, our local team can offer recommendations if required. The types of programs offered are the following: 1 month (£275), 2 months (£350), and 4 months (£500). The contribution fee includes a consulting training program adapted to the Peruvian context, as well as an orientation guide of Cusco. SALTO will provide transportation to/from the airport and to some project sites (costs above GBP 5), as well as help and orientation throughout your stay. In subsequent years, we hope to be able to subsidize most costs associated with undertaking placements with us.
