Disaster Action Teams provide 24-hour emergency response to local disasters, particularly house fires, ensuring that those affected have access to resources for necessities such as food, shelter and clothing.  

 Responsibilities: 

Supporting the annual goals, Regional Disaster Officer (RDO) objectives, and regional/chapter plan for DAT services through participation in meetings, projects, and local response activities. 

Completes all required training and maintains current training standard as DAT program requirements change. 

Attends regular team meetings and training as required by the region/territory. 

Completes assigned projects and local response activities according to the needs of the DAT program. (Preparing vehicles, response materials, administrative support of the DAT program and other tasks assigned by the DAT Leader.) 

Ability to: 

Agree to completing required online training quickly, approximately 8.5hrs

Must have a smartphone and be adept to using it

Be willing to respond

Follow and execute requests received from supervisor with little or no supervision. 

Adapt to change, negotiate compromise and tolerate ambiguity. 

Build effective relationships with others who can help with work-related goals.

STEPS TO THE APPLICATION PROCESS

  1.  Go to: https://volunteerconnection.redcross.org/?nd=lead&a=4389&h=193&p=994739
  2. Once your volunteer connection page is created it will prompt you to the application where you will see several steps you need to complete. Please make sure to follow the steps in order. If you run into any problems contact our Helpline at 844-621-4243.
  3. Once the application is complete you will see a message stating you are done and it will now be passed on to department that will finish completing the application. (This will be to complete background check and to verify all steps completed successfully and no information is missing. 
  4. Through the application process you will hear from multiple people. If you do not complete all steps, our Volunteer Intake Processing Center (VIPC) will contact you to help you with the remaining steps. Once all steps are completed you will then hear from our Engagement Specialist team to complete the screening process. This helps to make sure all information is secure and we are bringing you on as a volunteer in the correct position(s).
  5. Once the screening process is completed you will be referred to the department you will volunteer in. The will contact you to set up a time for orientation and any trainings that will need completed.
  6. There will be a background check done, motor vehicle and ACT153-child protective services law (depending on position will depend on what clearances you will need). Any questions with this process Renee Ault is the contact person. Phone: 412-292-3362, email renee.ault@redcross.org.
  7. Please know the process may take several days/weeks to complete depending on if steps are missing and still need completed, once referred to department if training needs completed, or if other required checks need completed.
