Trama Textiles is a 100% worker-owned women's weaving cooperative based in Guatemala, created to help local women receive a fair salary through weaving textiles. This cooperative is the perfect place to volunteer if you're creative, self-motivated, and interested in Guatemala's Mayan traditions.
Working directly with 17 weaving cooperatives, representing 400 women from five different regions, Trama Textiles' headquarters is in the beautiful highland city of Quetzaltenango (Xela). In Xela, we have a shop where the handwoven items are sold, and a weaving school offering hands-on classes for individuals wanting to learn about Guatemala's traditional weaving processes. We also sell our products online through our Etsy shop, as well as working with wholesale clients to fulfill large and custom orders.
Trama Textiles is looking for a dynamic and self-motivated graphic designer to create a series of digital publications. As an intern you will have the chance to develop and complete an entire project, producing a quality digital web content.
At Trama all new ideas and concepts are appreciated. We welcome volunteers from a variety of different creative fields some of which include; art, technology, product/ packaging design, pattern and graphic design, fashion and photography.
For our usual volunteer position we expect a minimum of one month’s commitment, though many of our volunteers decide to extend their stay with us. For this position we ask that you are able to commit up to 3 months to ensure completion of the project.
Our working hours are Usually 9am to 1pm Mon – Fri, but this can be flexible for remote volunteers.
We do not provide accommodation, but we can help you find an inexpensive place to stay. Quetzaltenango is a mid-sized city with plenty of affordable hostels and apartments. There are many shops and restaurants, bars and cafes, and it is a short bus ride away from many of the beautiful tourist sites in Los Altos (Lake Atitlán, Chichicastenango, Antigua, Huehuetenango, and many other destinations).
This position is also available as a remote volunteer position.
All positions are non-paid. We do not charge any fees for Internship programs.
