Shower Power Plus by Build A Bus Home is recruiting experienced Drivers

We are searching for kindhearted people who want to contribute to creating a positive impact in our community to serve as drivers for our shower trailer serving our unhoused neighbors. These wonderful humans will become an integral member of our growing team.

Shower Power Plus has a 27-foot shower trailer to support our ongoing efforts to improve health and hygiene of our unhoused community. We are actively recruiting volunteer members for a deployment team to be responsible for connecting the trailer to a tow vehicle, driving it to a deployment site within 10 miles, leveling the trailer and hooking up utilities. At the end of the deployment period the team will disconnect the plumbing, electrical (generator) and reconnect the trailer to the tow vehicle, and return the vehicles to the storage lot. Our goal is to have a few separate teams to enable volunteering to a minimum of once per month

We have a permit from the City of Olympia and LOTT to direct connect to the sewer access point onsite. The position includes connecting the grey/black water plumbing hose connections to reach the 75' access point.

The vehicle weighs 10,000 lbs and requires a ¾ to 1 ton tow vehicle.  A commercial driver’s license is not necessary but experience in towing utility or recreational vehicles of comparable weight and length is desirable. Volunteers with or without their own tow vehicle are encouraged to apply. A valid driver’s license is required, and a background check will be conducted. 

Deployments are planned for every Saturday and we intend to recruit enough team members to be once per week. Volunteer time commitments are estimated to be about 3 hours for pickup, delivery and set-up (7:00 AM until 10:00 AM) and 2-3 hours for tear down and return (3:00 PM until 6:00 PM) for a minimum of 6 hours per deployment; keeping in mind that mechanical and personnel issues may cause variation is this schedule.

Drivers may opt to volunteer for mechanical and fleet maintenance, and / or decide they would like to stay for the day to support the operations. (All other volunteer work is optional) Various other volunteer positions will be listed asap.

Build A Bus Home provdes insurance, fuel, training, and support for members of this team.
