    About LandSeed

LandSeed is a non-profit committed to reimagining entry-level housing for future generations. Our goal is to create inclusive communities where homeownership is accessible for all, and everyone has the opportunity to build a stable, fulfilling future. At LandSeed, we create solutions for the Canadian housing crisis by collaborating with communities and industry partners to identify barriers and create real pathways to homeownership.

How Will This Opportunity Benefit You

This opportunity will benefit the volunteer by offering experience in building AI-powered solutions within a mission-driven, agile organisation. As an AI Specialist, you’ll gain hands-on experience designing and deploying intelligent agents and automated workflows that directly impact nonprofit operations and housing innovation. You’ll sharpen your skills in prompt engineering, backend development, and automation tools, while contributing to meaningful, real-world use cases. This role is ideal for someone looking to expand their portfolio of applied AI projects while working alongside a multidisciplinary team focused on social impact and innovation.

How Will LandSeed Benefit from Your Contribution

LandSeed will benefit significantly from your contributions through the technical expertise, problem-solving mindset, and innovation you bring to advancing our mission. Your work will help us identify and address operational inefficiencies, develop intelligent automation, and improve internal systems using cutting-edge AI tools. By building streamlined workflows, custom integrations, and data-driven solutions, you will directly enhance our capacity to deliver programs, engage communities, and scale our impact. Your contributions will support a more efficient, adaptive, and forward-thinking organisation at the forefront of housing innovation.

    Description of the Role

The AI Specialist will be responsible for designing and implementing AI-powered tools, workflows, and automations to optimise LandSeed’s internal operations and data systems. The role combines technical skill with systems thinking to identify opportunities for efficiency, build AI agents, and support integration across platforms. You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams to co-design solutions that support strategic, programmatic, and operational goals.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Design and deploy AI workflows and automations using tools like OpenAI, LangChain, or similar frameworks.
    • Apply prompt engineering techniques to develop intelligent agents and natural language-based solutions.
    • Identify inefficiencies in current operations and propose AI-powered process improvements.
    • Implement low-code/no-code automations using tools like Zapier, Make (Integromat), or n8n.
    • Build or maintain custom backend integrations using Python, Node.js, Firebase, or similar technologies.
    • Map internal data and communication flows to inform automation and AI design.
    • Support the development of internal dashboards, bots, or task automation tools.
    • Collaborate with operations, data, and leadership teams to define technical requirements and outcomes.
    • Ensure security, privacy, and ethical AI use standards are maintained across implementations.
    • Document systems and handover materials to ensure long-term usability and scalability.

    Required Experience/Skills

    • Strong understanding of prompt engineering, natural language processing, and AI agent design.
    • Experience with AI frameworks or platforms (e.g., OpenAI, LangChain, AutoGPT, GPT-4 API).
    • Familiarity with low-code/no-code automation platforms like Zapier, Make, or n8n.
    • Ability to identify process gaps and design AI-based solutions for workflow optimization.
    • Backend development skills in Python, Node.js, or Firebase for custom integration.
    • Comfortable navigating APIs, data schemas, and cloud-based tools.
    • Strong documentation, communication, and collaboration skills.
    • Ability to work independently in a remote, mission-driven environment.
    • Bonus: Experience working with nonprofits or in social innovation settings.
