    Director of Programs

    Location: Remote (anywhere in the country)

    About Us: Opal’s Heart is a 501(c)3 non-profit, all-volunteer organization based in Prince George’s County, MD. We are dedicated to serving unhoused individuals in the Metropolitan D.C. area by assembling and distributing Care Bags containing hygiene products, socks, bottled water, and non-perishable snacks. Additionally, we provide Care Meals on our Outreach days. Opal’s Heart operates without paid staff or a physical location; all our efforts are driven by passionate volunteers who work from their homes and vehicles.

    Mission: To provide dignity to the unhoused one Care Bag at a time. 

    Overview: As the Director of Programs for Opal’s Heart, you will play a pivotal role in leading and managing all programmatic activities. You will be responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and evaluation of our programs to ensure they align with our mission and strategic goals. This position requires a dynamic leader who can inspire and empower a team, build strategic partnerships, and drive innovation in program design and delivery.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute the organization’s programmatic strategy in alignment with its mission and objectives.
    • Program Development: Lead the design, planning, and implementation of new programs and initiatives that address community needs and further the organization’s mission.
    • Team Management: Supervise and support program managers and coordinators, providing guidance, mentoring, and professional development opportunities.
    • Partnership Development: Cultivate and maintain strategic partnerships with community organizations, government agencies, funders, and other stakeholders to enhance program effectiveness and sustainability.
    • Monitoring and Evaluation: Establish and oversee systems for monitoring program outcomes and impact, ensuring data-driven decision-making and continuous improvement.
    • Resource Mobilization: Collaborate with the development team to secure funding and resources for program expansion and sustainability.
    • Advocacy and Representation: Serve as a spokesperson and advocate for the organization’s programs and initiatives in various forums, including meetings, conferences, and media engagements.
    • Compliance and Reporting: Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and funding requirements, and prepare timely and accurate reports for funders and stakeholders.

    Qualifications:

    • Education: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field required; Master’s degree preferred.
    • Experience: Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in program management and leadership within the nonprofit sector, including demonstrated success in designing and implementing programs.
    • Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead, motivate, and manage a diverse team; strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate effectively with staff, volunteers, and external partners.
    • Strategic Vision: Ability to think strategically, anticipate future consequences and trends, and incorporate them into organizational planning.
    • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate the organization’s mission, programs, and impact to diverse audiences.
    • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a track record of using data to drive decision-making and improve program outcomes.
    • Commitment: Passion for the mission of Opal’s Heart and a commitment to social justice and community development.
