Nosso Programa

U Oregon graduates are highly recruited due to our relentless program focus on applied, nonprofit-specific skills to move organizations forward.

The Master of Nonprofit Management (MNM) is a comprehensive professional degree that prepares students for leadership of nonprofit organizations and foundations.

The MNM degree is distinct from an MBA and an MPA due to the nonprofit sector’s unique funding and management structures. For example, cultivating major gifts, advocating for policy change, and leading a volunteer workforce all require specialized training from the "third sector" perspective. We have crafted a nonprofit-specific, strongly skills-focused curriculum that blends applied projects into the entire curriculum (not just in a final project).

Students graduate with a strong portfolio of experiences and well-developed nonprofit networks, and obtain excellent positions across the US and internationally. University of Oregon's highly-ranked nonprofit program is 18 years old, with over 400 alumni of our Graduate Certificate in Nonprofit Management and Master of Nonprofit Management programs.

Faculty conduct research and have a nonprofit-first point of view -- "how might these recommendations affect how nonprofits and foundations operate?"

Flexibility of the curriculum allows students to focus on their sub-topic of choice, including a large range of fields like food studies, arts management, policy advocacy, environment, gender studies, international development, and others. Students may also pursue concurrent masters degrees in a variety of other programs, including MPA, Law, MBA, and other degree programs.

Coursework like the Philanthropy seminar (students award a $20,000 grant to a regional nonprofit of their choosing), the Board Governance course (students serve as voting board members of a nonprofit of their choice for a year), the 48-Hour Nonprofit Management Charrette (students have 48 hours to research and produce a solution to a nonprofit management problem), the Nonprofit Management Consultancy, and the Strategic Planning course (students write strategic plans for local organizations)...and other courses, prepare students to hone their professional skills for immediate use.

UO's MNM program prepares you for reality in the nonprofit working world. I find myself doing projects that I've already done; I can pull out grad school files and find notes on exactly what I'm working on.

  • Amanda Kaler image

The MNM program's rigorous classes, hands-on opportunities to work with local nonprofits, a diverse peer community, and professional development support all equipped me with the skills and confidence to land my dream job right out of school.

Amanda Kaler, MNM and MS. Arts Mgmt., University of Oregon ‘13

The MNM program strikes a great balance between theory and practice. It is academically rigorous while providing plenty of opportunities to work on tangible projects for nonprofits. The broader understanding of the nonprofit sector and management best practices that this program provided helps me in my job on a daily basis.
