The School of Social Work is committed to turning today’s students into tomorrow’s leaders. Underscoring this objective is a rigorous curriculum that empowers students to be active and responsible learners. Courses are led by faculty who value evidence-based practice and the importance of self-reflection. The School of Social Work promotes a supportive academic environment. Students, with faculty and staff assistance, design a plan of study that best suits their academic and professional goals and provides a thorough and enriching educational experience.
The MSW program is designed to educate social workers for advanced practice. Graduates are prepared to provide leadership in the development of socially- and economically-just policies that strengthen individuals, families, groups, organizations and communities. With full-time, 3-year and advanced standing (12- and 20-month programs) options, the School offers a variety of ways for you to obtain your MSW degree. Concentration options include direct practice and community, management and policy practice.
Building on our nationally recognized master’s program in social work,the Ph.D. program prepares graduates to be leaders in their profession by conducting research on innovative social interventions and sharing their work through writing and teaching. Our graduates are well prepared to assume leadership roles at the state, national and international level.

Requerimentos Adicionais
Interviews will be required for all competitive international applicants and applicants to the 3- year Chapel Hill (Triangle) and Winston-Salem programs and the 20-month Advanced Standing Program. The School of Social Work admissions office will contact all applicants for interviews by email.
Advanced Standing applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Reference letter from a faculty member at their BSW Program. This can be one of the three required recommendations.
- If you have been out of school more than seven (7) years, you must complete submit a formal request to be considered for the Advanced Standing Program.
- Have a B or better average GPA in the last 60 credit hours of an accredited bachelor's degree and a B or better in all of the required undergraduate social work classes. Exceptions are made on a case-by-case basis.

- October 11, 2022: Chapel Hill 20-month Advanced Standing Program. (The program begins January 2023.)
- January 10, 2023: Chapel Hill 2-year Full-time Program and the 12-month Advanced Standing Programs. (The 12-month Advanced Standing Program will begin May 16, 2023; the 2-year Full-time Program begins in August.) The priority application deadline is December 13, 2022.
- February 14, 2023: 3-year Chapel Hill and Winston-Salem Programs. (The 3-year programs begin August 2023.)
