Bilingual Outreach Paralegal - Pittsburgh

The Community Justice Project is hiring a Bilingual Outreach Paralegal to work out of its Pittsburgh office.  This position can be either full time or part time. Applications will be accepted beginning March 27, 2024 and job will remain open until filled.

Overview of the Community Justice Project 

The Community Justice Project (CJP) is a statewide, unrestricted legal aid program that is part of Pennsylvania’s Legal Aid Network. CJP conducts broad advocacy in all forms and subject areas, which include civil rights, employment, housing, community development, consumer, immigration, immigrant rights, and public benefits.  An important part of CJP’s work involves outreach to immigrant communities from offices in Pittsburgh, Reading, Scranton, Hazleton, and Harrisburg.  

Job Description 

 CJP is seeking to hire a bilingual, Spanish-speaking paralegal to do local outreach and community education, and to assist on cases, including by providing interpretation and written translation on behalf of low-income immigrant and Limited English proficient (LEP) clients in the Pittsburgh area, under the supervision of CJP’s lawyers.  Topics of outreach may include housing, language access, and employment rights, though the paralegal will also have the freedom to identify other potential areas of outreach in conjunction with CJP’s lawyers.  

 Job Requirements 

The Bilingual Outreach Paralegal must at least have an associate degree, be fully bilingual in English and Spanish, and have a strong commitment to CJP’s low-income client community.  Strong communications skills, self-motivation, and organizational skills are also valued.  Prior paralegal experience is not necessary. 

Compensation and Benefits 

The Bilingual Outreach Paralegal will be a non-exempt employee.  The starting, entry-level compensation for employees at the Paralegal I level is $18.74/hour.  In addition, full time employees are eligible for CJP’s benefits package, including health insurance, dental and vision insurance, retirement contributions, and paid parental leave.

 Requisitos de trabajo 

El asistente legal de extensión bilingüe debe tener al menos un título de asociado, ser completamente bilingüe en inglés y español y tener un fuerte compromiso con la comunidad de clientes de bajos ingresos de CJP. También se valoran fuertes habilidades de comunicación, automotivación y habilidades organizativas. No es necesario tener experiencia previa como asistente legal. 

Compensación y beneficios 

El asistente legal de extensión bilingüe será un empleado no exento. La compensación inicial para los empleados del nivel Paralegal I es de $18,74 por hora. Además, los empleados de tiempo completo son elegibles para el paquete de beneficios de CJP, que incluye seguro médico, seguro dental y de la vista, contribuciones de jubilación y licencia parental remunerada.
