Description

We are the San Francisco affiliate of NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness), one of more than 1,100 local affiliates known by its acronym NAMI or NAMI San Francisco.

With some 200,000 members, NAMI is the nation's largest grassroots, volunteer organization dedicated to improving the lives of people with severe mental illnesses through advocacy and education efforts. We understand that mental illness deeply affects whole families; not just the person with an illness.

The primary goals of NAMI San Francisco: 1. Promote the empowerment of consumers and their loved ones to pursue wellness in their lives as they define it and to advocate for themselves within the mental health system and in the design of their treatment plan/health maintenance plan.

2. Advocate for the public understanding and acceptance of mental illnesses as no different from physical illnesses and disability.
