    Overview of the Assessment Development Associate Position:

    We are presently seeking individuals with experience in educational assessment (formative, interim, large-scale summative) and/or evaluation. We expect the Assessment Development Associate to think both analytically and creatively, write clearly and convincingly, be organized and detail-oriented, and provide support to a variety of projects. For this associate-level position, we require a master’s degree with 1-3 years of relevant experience; a Ph.D. in a related field is preferred but not required. Some classroom or educational leadership experience at the K-12 level is highly desired.

    Experience in the assessment development life cycle (assessment claims, general and extended academic content standards, test blueprints, test/item specifications, item writing/reviewing, print materials, reporting), is essential, as is strong experience using Microsoft Excel and SmartSheet. This expertise may come from a combination of graduate-level training, experience working in an educational setting or for an assessment vendor or technical assistance provider or working in a policy-oriented setting (e.g., for federal or state-level government, education consulting firm, etc.). Strong written and oral communication, presentation, facilitation, project-management, and time-management skills are essential to the position.

We expect Associates to demonstrate leadership and management skills that help to support and build critical thinking skills in others. The Associate position responsibilities include:

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

    Task Management & Collaboration

    • Manage tasks and ensure work is completed efficiently according to guidance from the project director.
    • Collaborate with team members to establish timelines, workflows, and high-quality deliverables.
    • Take ownership of work and ensure the tasks of assigned program specialists are managed effectively, providing guidance as needed.
    • Proactively identify potential issues in time management or quality control and implement solutions, involving project leadership if necessary.
    • Contribute to the overall project workload by completing your assigned share of tasks and seeking additional opportunities to support team efforts.

    Problem Solving & Issue Resolution

    • Identify time or quality control issues promptly and implement solutions, seeking guidance from project leadership as necessary to ensure smooth project progress.
    • Resolve issues proactively and collaborate with the team to overcome challenges and facilitate work completion in a timely manner.

    Communication & Reporting

    • Maintain clear, professional communication with supervisors, project leadership, clients, and team members. Provide timely feedback and respond respectfully to requests.
    • Contribute to the preparation of reports, proposals, marketing materials, and other deliverables, ensuring that content is aligned with project goals and deadlines.
    • Draft and revise reports for clients, ensuring they meet deadlines and maintain high quality.
    • Assist in preparing and delivering presentations for various stakeholders, such as educators, advisory committees, and state education department staff.

    Data Analysis & Research Support

    • Assist in the creation of data analysis plans and contribute to the execution of quantitative and qualitative analyses, translating findings into accessible reports.
    • Collect and analyze evaluation data using tools like Excel, R, SPSS, SAS, or STATA.
    • Draft reports that communicate research findings to clients in clear and concise formats tailored to the audience’s needs.
    • Support the design and delivery of presentations to stakeholders, ensuring that data is presented in a clear, engaging way for various education-related groups.

    Required and Preferred Qualifications:

    We seek flexible, resourceful, intelligent, detail-oriented, hard-working individuals who are capable of excelling in an intellectually stimulating and often intense work environment. As noted above, we strongly prefer experience with K-12 assessment development and research. We require and/or prefer the following qualifications:

    • Master’s degree in educational or related fields (Ph.D. preferred) or bachelor’s with 3-7 years of relevant experience; Terminal/master’s with 1-3 years preferred.
    • Content area expertise at the K-12 level is highly desired, specifically in math
    • Project Management Certification preferred
    • Experience with quantitative and qualitative research, proficient in R, SPSS, STATA, or SAS; strong understanding of assessment development and educational measurement preferred.
    • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to produce clear technical reports, documentation, and presentations.
    • Strong writing skills for state summative assessments and detailed client-focused reports.
    • Ability to collaborate effectively in team settings, facilitate group discussions, and maintain professional relationships with clients and stakeholders.
    • Strong organizational skills, able to handle multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines with attention to detail.
    • Proven leadership and management skills; ability to guide teams, foster critical thinking, and mentor team members to support their professional growth.
    • Expertise in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
    • Expertise with analytical tools (R, SPSS, STATA, SAS) for research and data analysis preferred.

    Additional Information:

    This is a remote position. Some travel, as necessitated by project demands, will be required.

    Salary: Starting at $75,000 annually, may be negotiated in recognition of experience and education level.
