ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:

The Department of Human Service Programs (DHSP) creates and coordinates services that enhance the quality of life for Cambridge residents. Driven by the needs of residents, DHSP’s extensive services and programs touch almost every sector in the city: from newborns to senior citizens, from school-aged children to homeless families, from non-profit organizations to local employers.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

Agenda for Children Out-of-School Time (AFCOST) seeks a part-time, 19.5 hours per week Professional Development Associate to provide logistical coordination and administrative support to our professional development and communications systems serving approximately 70 Cambridge Out of School Time programs with 500 staff working with 4,000 Cambridge children and youth. The Professional Development Associate reports to the OST Learning Institute Coordinator.

The mission of AFCOST is to organize, catalyze and support the youth-serving community in Cambridge for the shared purpose of increasing equity, access and innovation and sustaining the highest quality out of school time opportunities and experiences for all children, youth, and families. www.agendaforchildrenost.org

 

We are seeking a collaborative and facilitative team member who has demonstrated an understanding of how children and youth are affected by social inequities and how to address these impacts. The candidate must have the ability to see the big picture, be a community builder and be innovative and thoughtful in their approach. Our ideal candidate has a passion for improving the lives of children through inspirational support of the adults who work with them.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 

We seek a dynamic individual with strong organizational and time management skills who will:

  • Coordinate professional development system logistics:securing training/event locations and scheduling Zoom meetings
  • purchasing and delivering food
  • setting up and/or breaking down events/trainings
  • facilitator support: taking attendance, delivering materials, AV set up and troubleshooting, note taking
  • Support profile and participation data collection, entry, and monitoring for quality
  • Support feedback survey data collection and entry
  • Support maintenance of 500-person, 70-OST program/organization Client Relations Management system
  • Support oversight of food budget 
  • Support communications as needed
  • Participate in AFCOST All Team meeting held three times per year and Communications Team as needed
  • Actively engage in and support the Department’s Race and Equity Initiative
  • Additional administrative tasks as needed

 

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Experience and Education

  • Experience with databases, Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workplace, social media, and audio/visual systems

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Flexible schedule
  • A valid driver’s license and reliable access to a vehicle
  • Flexibility and availability before, during and after professional development events (event hours: 9 a.m.-1p.m., occasionally 5:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.)
  • Willingness to learn new technologies and systems including Adobe Creative Cloud and Canva
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently
  • Ability to take responsibility for a project and get it done
  • Demonstrated cultural humility
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to solve problems or access resources as needed

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS, WORKING CONDITIONS, WORK FLEXIBILITY AND ACCOMODATIONS:

  • Ability to travel back & forth between multiple sites and locations.
  • Ability to access, input and retrieve information from a computer
  • Ability to answer phones, maintain multiple files and lift a minimum of at least 15 pounds. 
  • Work will be performed at multiple locations across Cambridge, including but not limited to: 51 Inman Street, 344 Broadway, Lesley University, Moses Youth Center and other City and OST program sites. 
  • Regular engagement with AFCOST leadership/Core Team, training facilitators and out of school time staff.   
  • Standard office environment at 51 Inman, which includes fluorescent lighting, carpeting and air conditioning.  Shared office space can be busy and moderately loud.
  • This position may be eligible for hybrid work under the City’s Telework Policy depending on operational needs.
