Metro's Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Department is working to address systemic inequities that impact our communities by providing support and tools to Metro staff, Metro Council and community partners to create an equitable region for all. The Metro Council approved a Diversity Action Plan in 2012 and a Strategic plan to advance racial equity, diversity and inclusion in 2016. The plan is built on a set of core principles:
Metro's public engagement review process helps make sure that Metro engages a diversity of people from throughout the region, is accountable for how public input affects decisions and evaluates outreach activities. The Committee on Racial Equity was created and chartered by Metro Council to advise council and staff to ensure there is successful implementation of the strategic plan.
A key component of the strategic plan is that each Metro department develop their own racial equity action plans that are unique to the department needs and structure. These plans are created in consultation with CORE and other department specific equity cohorts.
