Awamaki is seeking a motivated, independent, organized person to support international partnerships, storytelling and fundraising in Peru in the Sacred Valley of Peru.
Our ideal candidate can work fluidly alongside indigenous artisan women in their villages, Peruvian staff members, international staff over zoom, and foreign students and volunteers, to meet deadlines, keep goals on track and move our work forward. This is an opportunity to both use creative means like writing, photography and videography to capture our work, while working across all aspects of the organization to tell Awamaki's stories.
About Awamaki
Awamaki is a non-profit social enterprise that partners with Quechua women to preserve traditional crafts through skills based education and connection to market access through sustainable tourism and ethically-sourced crafts. Awamaki is located in Ollantaytambo, a small town in the heart of the Sacred Valley, in Cusco, Peru.
Purpose of the Role:
To co-create and gather authentic, high-quality content that highlights the craftsmanship, traditions, and impact of Awamaki’s artisan partners. This role works closely with the Marketing & Partnerships Coordinator to ensure that Awamaki’s storytelling remains deeply connected to the artisans' lived experiences while providing engaging multimedia content for marketing, social media, and wholesale storytelling.
Key Responsibilities:
Awamaki Content Collection & Storytelling
- Attend Monthly Marketing Meeting
- Collaborate with the Marketing & Partnerships Coordinator to set content calendar
- Oversee content gathering in Peru according to the monthly requirements established in the meeting and content calendar. Content may include program successes, artisan interviews, personal stories, and craft-focused narratives
- Assist in drafting or translating short-form stories for social media, newsletters, and blog posts.
- Capture using video, audio, and photography, in collaboration with marketing volunteers as needed
- Follow branding guidelines for both visual and written content
Donor and Funder Communication
- Collect content and write reports according to grant reporting timeline
- Gather and write information about program successes and artisan stories for donor communications
- Write short monthly bulletins featuring one artisan, technique, program, success or other story per month
- Maintain a calendar of regular reporting required on third party sites; create and submit written content for these sites adhering to their deadlines
- Gather info to update and create written and visual content info for the annual report
Photography & Video Production
- Take high-quality photos of artisans, workshops, and finished products for marketing materials, or supervise volunteers in doing so
- Capture and edit short-form video content for Instagram Reels, TikTok, and marketing campaigns in collaboration with the marketing volunteers, as needed.
- Maintain a photo and video library for easy access by the marketing team.
- Share photo and video content with partners according to their specifications as needed
Cultural & Ethical Storytelling Alignment
- Ensure all stories are told ethically and respectfully, centering the artisans’ voices and perspectives.
- Collaborate with artisans to co-create narratives rather than imposing external perspectives.
- Support content translation (Quechua/Spanish to English) when necessary.
Logistics & Coordination
- Follow a content calendar to manage product launches and campaigns, working alongside the marketing team.
- Coordinate with artisans to schedule interviews and photo shoots in partnership with the Marketing & Partnerships Coordinator.
- Assist in delivering content in a timely and organized manner.
- Manage marketing and storytelling volunteers
Other
- Unless otherwise arranged, the person in this role will train to be a backup in facilitating school and service groups, approximately 20 total days per year
- We have a small team and a culture of helping each other across work areas. Each staff member works one day per week in the Awamaki store. Each staff member also helps out in the tourism department as needed in the busy season, to ensure that all team members can have a balanced workload.
QUALIFICATIONS
- English and Spanish proficiency
- Excellent writing and storytelling skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- Strong photography and videography skills (smartphone-based is okay!)
- Motivated and driven independent worker
PLEASE NOTE: as of 9/2025, we are unable to hire a candidate for this position who does not have a legal work visa (carnet) or DNI in Peru, because of the status of other staff visa applications. If you have another path to a carnet (Peruvian parents, spouse, business) we would be happy to partner with you on obtaining the carnet another way. We hope this changes soon.
