The New York Immigration Coalition (NYIC) is an umbrella policy and advocacy organization for nearly 200 groups in New York State. Position Overview 

The Senior Director of Membership and Programs will lead the organization’s service delivery, service coordination, and capacity building initiatives. The Director will oversee the Immigrant Concerns Training Institute, which provides training on immigration law as well as a variety of other topics to service providers across the state, the Community Programming team, which coordinates a variety of immigrant-serving events statewide, including legal clinics, and the Membership and Capacity Building team, which oversees all member organization administration and capacity-building, including a substantial regrant program. In addition, the Senior Director also leads a growing team focused on coordination of a large statewide contract for service delivery. 


Reports to: Vice President of Policy and Programs


Responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

  • Lead strategy and execution of broad, collaborative initiatives with NYIC members and other NYIC departments to provide critical services for immigrant communities 
  • Build deep understanding of the roles, responsibilities, and strengths of each team within Membership and Programs, and use those to engage in strategic planning and optimize workflows and communication internally
  • Work with senior leadership to identify priorities and design activities to accomplish goals; support team to accomplish them, comply with all regulatory and funder requirements
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with legal and social service providers throughout New York State, funders, elected officials, and strategic partners and allies; share information and serve as a resource for partners 
  • Serve as spokesperson for NYIC when necessary 
  • Maintain a birds-eye-view of immigrant services throughout New York as well as emerging needs and  opportunities to provide support for NYIC members 
  • Oversee several government contracts and lead on budget development and management, funder relationships, and program development and execution, in collaboration with program heads and executive leadership
  • Serve as a key organizational lead on a large state contract with several dozen regrantees. Coordinate organization strategy, deploy staff effectively, manage grantee performance and relationships, ensure accurate and timely reporting, liaise with funders, including at a high level of state government, and design and deploy innovative service delivery models for underserved populations and under-resourced regions of the state
  • Guide the development of training curricula and areas of focus, identifying areas of synergy between NYIC training deliverables, community and partner needs, and existing organizational campaigns and initiatives
  • Oversee community-facing programming, including service-related events, legal clinics, and other outreach. Ensure the highest possible standards in delivery of services and information, while maintaining reasonable boundaries for and support to staff engaged in this work
  • Ensure that the NYIC’s membership and capacity-building programming is robust, well-resourced, and appropriately integrated with the organization as a whole
  • Oversee overall program budget and support development efforts by identifying and cultivating potential funding sources and preparing proposals and reports 
  • Build and supervise team of staff, fellows, and volunteers 
  • Oversee five direct reports as well as a team of 18 people. Motivate staff, manage performance, guide professional development, and provide key feedback
  • Occasionally, carries and moves materials weighing 50 pounds or less


Qualifications

  • 7 years of progressive experience in immigration law (the practice of immigration law) as a team leader and project manager, ideally building programming related to immigration services
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to convey complex information and concepts in a digestible manner
  • Knowledge of immigration law and understanding of key needs of immigrant communities required 
  • Able to use data to evaluate and design programming, experience managing and thinking critically about the design of data collection systems
  • Creative and dynamic project leader who can respond quickly to new challenges and lead in rapid response moments
  • Experience as a supervisor and a team leader required - highly proficient in team-building, coaching, mentoring, and developing talent
  • Committed to building and supporting diverse teams, highly culturally competent manager who can effectively engage diverse voices in developing and carrying out the organization’s priorities
  • Fluency in a language other than English is a bonus, though not required


Salary: $103,000.00**
