THE ORGANIZATION

The National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO) Educational Fund was established in 1981 to promote the full participation of Latinos in the American political process, from citizenship to public service. NALEO Educational Fund achieves its mission through integrated strategies that include increasing the effectiveness of Latino policymakers, mobilizing the Latino community to engage in civic life, and promoting policies that advance Latino political engagement.

NALEO Educational Fund is a 501(c)3 non-profit, non-partisan organization governed by a 15-member Board of Directors and a 36-member Board of Advisors. Headquartered in Monterey Park, CA, NALEO Educational Fund maintains offices in Houston, New York City, and Washington, D.C., with staff and program presence in other areas of the United States. POSITION SUMMARY

The Deputy Director of Constituency Services – Economic Mobility is responsible for leading the organization’s state-based governance training programs serving Latino policymakers and other related efforts on economic mobility. The ideal candidate will be provided with the opportunity to make a tangible impact on the lives of Latinos by strengthening the governance skills of Latino policymakers. In this role, the Deputy Director of Constituency Services-Economic Mobility will have the chance to lead initiatives that pave the way for Latino families and communities to thrive economically, fostering a future where everyone has the chance to   reach their full potential. The position is based in Los Angeles, CA. The Deputy Director of Constituency Services – Economic Mobility will work on organization programs and projects as needed and assigned. Travel is required. This position reports to the Director of Constituency Services – Workforce and Economic Development. This is a full-time, non-exempt position with an annual salary in the range of $60,000 - $80,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The position will maintain a hybrid schedule – working both remotely, and in the office as required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Lead and manage the day-to-day work and deliverables for the organization’s portfolio related to economic mobility programming for NALEO Members;
  • Develop and implement training curricula related to economic mobility for NALEO Members;
  • Maintain NALEO Member engagement to oversee membership’s use of data resources and tools;
  • Represent, attend and actively engage in a “community of practice” alongside key partners to advance economic mobility data tools and resources among NALEO stakeholders;
  • Oversee the delivery of surveys and data tracking mechanisms to measure organization’s impact and member use of data tools and resources;
  • Collaborate with other key staff and departments whose work will intersect with the successful implementation of the economic mobility portfolio goals and objectives, including Communications team and Associate Director of Constituency Services- Impact;
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the NALEO Annual Conference program;
  • Assume other assigned duties in support of the Constituency Services Department and organization as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS – KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Minimum BS/BA degree, advanced degree in urban planning, public policy, or related discipline a plus;
  • Minimum of three years of experience in non-profit advocacy, public policy, government work or related field preferred;
  • Analytic skills with the ability to prioritize, distill, synthesize and communicate information and key objectives and tactics to internal and external audiences;
  • Strong writing and communications skills required;
  • Proven ability to prioritize workload, be self-motivated, execute projects independently, outstanding project management, organized and results-oriented;
  • Great interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships and serve as liaison with stakeholders, including staff, public officials, external partners and funders;
  • Contribute positively to the work culture by being solutions-oriented and a team player;
  • Knowledge of and interest in Latino politics required;
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven work environment with varying hours and work on weekends as needed;
  • Must be technology savvy, proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, PowerPoint; other software used include Salesforce, Monday.com, Zoom and other office software;  
  • Effectively prioritize workload and meet deadlines;
  • Work professionally, collaboratively, and respectfully with all organizational colleagues and external stakeholders;
  • Adhere to attendance and punctuality standards of the organization;
  • If a driver, must have a valid driver’s license with proof of automobile insurance coverage;
  • Collegial attitude with the ability to work respectfully with people from all cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds;
  • Ability to advocate and support the mission, vision, and values of the NALEO Educational Fund.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL ASPECTS OF THE POSITON

Certain physical and mental aspects of performing the essential functions of the position include the following:

  • Ability to detect, discern, recognize, and perceive auditory and visual information within normal ranges;
  • Dexterity to read, write, type, operate office equipment such as a computer, printer, telephone, calculator, copier, fax machine, pencils, pens, and stapler;
  • Ability to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time;
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
