The Common Place (TCP) is looking to hire a passionate and experienced individual for the
Programming Chef position. This individual will be involved with several programs within the
organization including the After school Scholars program (June -August) SWAT Summer camp
and TCPO (Oct – May) which averages about 40 – 60 hrs a month. Each of these programs will
require different skill sets including creating lunch/ breakfast menu options, lesson planning, teaching lessons for food preparation, serving, clean up and shopping for food supplies. During the school year (June-August) there may be some Saturday morning hours which will be scheduled in advance. A current Safe Serve certificate is required along with paperwork, 12 hours of annual training.
QUALIFICATIONS:

RESPONSIBILITIES:
As the Lunch Coordinator (LC) for the SWAT Summer Camp (June-August) the candidate will
work in a team setting to provide nutritious lunch options for the summer camp. The LC will be
responsible for working with the Program Director and Program Coordinator to create a healthy lunch menu for our 8 week summer camp; Shop for the food supplies; prepare lunch and food options for scholars; Serve scholars in lunchroom style in a timely fashion; and clean up kitchen and lunchroom area M – Th/ 8:30 Am – 2 PM. Based on budget restrictions ,there is the potential for culinary classes with the students in the afternoon if time and money allows.
As the Breakfast Coordinator (BC) for TCP Orchestra Saturday Rehearsals (Oct – May), the
candidate will need to prep from 7:30am-9:00am, serve a hot breakfast from 9:00am-9:30am,
and clean up the kitchen and lunchroom area from 9:30am-10:30am or until cleaning is
complete. Rehearsals will be scheduled on a semester basis.
Finally As the Cooking Specialist for the TCP Scholars (June-August ) the candidate will need to
teach students basic cooking skills, utilizing math, reading and other core skills during the process. The Chef will creating a hands-on cooking and nutrition education curriculum for young people ages 5 through 8. Participants will be introduced to cooking, vocabulary & techniques, tools and utensils, basics of etiquette, nutrition, safety in the kitchen, and new foods.
Activities should be based on learning strategies and guided practice designed to provide significant nutrition information, culinary skills, food safety, cultural diversity, team building and self-esteem as they learn about making wise food choices for lifetime
of good health.

▪ Create shopping lists on bi weekly or monthly basis.
▪ Prepare lunch for children daily.
▪ Serve prepared lunch to scholars in timely fashion.
▪ Clean area after serving lunch.
▪ Create age-appropriate lessons for children K – 8 groups.
▪ Communicate with PD regularly.
▪ Integrate time for shopping for food supplies
▪ Engage in money saving methods and practices to maximize funding.
▪ Perform other duties as assigned.
