Full Time ESL Instructor - Adults

Overview

DCLC is seeking a full-time ESL instructor to teach classes to adult English language learners from different backgrounds, cultures, and countries. The instructor teaches up to 20 hours per week (3-4 classes), with one class being two nights per week (either Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday). The instructor is expected to work both with the whole class as well as individually with learners to provide differentiated help to assist them in reaching their goals.

Job Functions

· Prepare and deliver ESL lessons rooted in PA College and Career Readiness Standards and PA Foundation Skills in both in-person and remote classroom settings.

· Create a classroom environment that is structured, inviting, and supportive to help students build the skills they need to achieve language-oriented, education-related, and professional goals.

· Attend and participate in all required teacher meetings and professional development opportunities.

· Submit weekly lesson plans and key student data, including attendance, goal attainment, and barriers to participation.

· Analyze student assessment results and explain strengths and weakness to students individually.

· Contact students regarding attendance, participation, class changes, and issues when needed.

· Inform student support staff when students need barrier help or have classroom issues, such as low attendance.

· Actively communicate with supervisor and fellow instructors through email and Teams.

· Help with orientations and assessments as needed.

· Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree

· Previous teaching experience

• Knowledge in or willingness to learn various office and teaching technologies, including:
• Microsoft 365 and Office, Zoom, Google Classroom, Newsela
• Excellent time management and communication skills

Preferred Skills/Knowledge

· Ability to support students in connecting to support service.

· Experience working with adult learners and English language learners.

· Knowledge of PA College and Career Readiness Standards and PA Foundation Skills a plus.
