    Job Title: Development and Marketing Director

    Full/Part Time: Full-Time

    Location: Primary work location is in Oakland, California (at the office and/or remotely), with some travel required to campsite in Quincy, CA during summer months (rustic, charming camp accommodations provided)

    Compensation: $95,000 USD annually, non-negotiable

    Duration: At-will year-round

    Classification: Salaried, Exempt

    Reports To: Executive Director

    About OFRC:

    Oakland Feather River Camp (OFRC) has been in operation since 1924, with a mission to promote and celebrate connections between nature, family, and community, creating unique opportunities to advance environmental appreciation, cultural diversity, and youth empowerment. Each year, we welcome hundreds of campers of all ages from Oakland and the San Francisco Bay Area to our property in the Plumas National Forest. OFRC strives to serve the families of Oakland with our signature Family Camp Program, and we also partner with the City of Oakland's Parks, Recreation, and Youth Development Department. Finally, we partner with several rental groups throughout each summer, including non-profit and corporate retreats, education and recreation programs, and even weddings!

    Position Purpose:

    The Development and Marketing Director is a full-time, year-round position responsible for leading and executing fundraising and marketing strategies for Oakland Feather River Camp (OFRC). This role ensures the organization has the necessary resources to support its mission and programs by managing all aspects of development, including major giving, institutional support, annual giving, and special events like the annual gala. The director also oversees marketing efforts to retain current and attract new campers, donors, and institutional partners, strengthening the camp's brand and community presence.

    Ideal Candidate:

    The ideal candidate for this role is a dynamic and hands-on leader who thrives in a community-focused environment. They should possess a strong background in fundraising and marketing, with the ability to manage multiple projects and adapt quickly to changing needs. This person will have experience with grant management, special events, and digital marketing, and will be comfortable working with a diverse team that spans generations. They should be a creative problem-solver with a commitment to feedback and growth. The ideal candidate will also be passionate about reflecting the diversity of Oakland in the camp community and will value different lived experiences.

    Essential Job Functions:

    • Lead and Manage Fundraising Initiatives
      • Alongside the Executive Director, build a multi-year fundraising strategy that builds upon recent fundraising successes.
      • Oversee all institutional fundraising activities, including grant applications, grant reports, and prospecting for new institutional support.
      • Manage the annual gala, including ticket and table sales, sponsorships and auction/raffle donations, vendor hiring, and content development in collaboration with a volunteer Gala committee and external consultants.
      • Lead the annual giving program, including the Summer Campaign, Year-End Campaign (YEC) and monthly giving pushes.
      • Alongside the Executive Director, cultivate and solicit major gifts, including contributions for facility needs, match pools for events and campaigns, and launching a legacy giving program.
      • Develop and implement a comprehensive stewardship plan that includes thank-you notes, personalized reports, and donor appreciation events.
      • Support the Executive Director and Board of Directors with annual pledges and donor engagement.
      • Collaborate with other team members to secure funding for specific programs, like our campership program, which ensures Oakland residents can access OFRC regardless of financial means.
    • Drive Marketing and Communications Strategy
      • Develop and execute an integrated marketing calendar for year-round activities.
      • Oversee acquisition marketing efforts, including digital and print campaigns targeting new campers and rental groups.
      • Manage retention marketing to encourage returning campers through e-newsletters, social media, and early-bird promotions.
      • Collaborate in the annual registration launch, ensuring all materials (website content, forms, announcements) are ready and effective.
      • Manage and create content for the website and all social media platforms.
      • Gather and organize marketing content, such as photos and testimonials from camp.
      • Develop and manage the marketing budget and track expenses.
    • Oversee and Optimize Development and Marketing Systems
      • Administer key fundraising and marketing technologies, including Little Green Light (LGL), Classy/GoFundMePRO, Mailchimp, WordPress, and CampBrain.
      • Process and acknowledge all gifts in a timely and accurate manner.
      • Maintain accurate donor and prospect data in the master trackers and databases.
      • Analyze fundraising and marketing results to inform future planning and create annual goals.
      • Identify and implement opportunities for system integration and process improvements to streamline operations.
      • Ensure all data entry and gift processing procedures are documented as Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

    Other Job Duties:

    • Support the Executive Director and Board with outreach and advocacy, particularly with City Council and other partners.
    • Represent OFRC at community events.
    • Manage expenses and renewals for relevant software and subscriptions.
    • Educate Board members on peer-to-peer fundraising and stewardship best practices.
    • Identify and pursue new marketing ideas, such as partnerships with homeschool programs and private schools.

    Relationships:

    The Development and Marketing Director will work closely with the Executive Director on major donor, partner and city relationships. They will lead a Board Development Committee and Gala Committee, and may supervise or collaborate closely with other consultants or volunteers, such as designers, Board Members or event planners. This role requires constant collaboration with the rest of the Year-Around staff teams to gather content, coordinate events, and align on program-specific funding needs.

    Qualifications: (Minimum Qualifications and Past Experience)

    • Required
      • 5+ years of experience in a Fundraising Leadership Role
      • Excellent project management skills
      • Excellent interpersonal communication skills
      • Strong attention to detail
      • Proven ability to manage and execute successful fundraising events, such as year-end campaigns, an annual gala, etc.
      • Experience with grant prospecting, application, and management
      • Experience in digital marketing.
      • Proficiency in using and managing fundraising databases (e.g., LGL) and marketing software (e.g., Mailchimp).
    • Desired
      • Knowledge of the Oakland community, including its civil society and donor communities.
      • Experience with integrated constituent management systems like CampBrain and Classy.
      • Prior experience working for a camp environment.
      • Comfort with public speaking

    Work Environment & Physical Aspects of the Position:

    This position can be remote, but will require travel to camp and to frequent events in Oakland. The role involves regular computer use and requires the ability to work in a collaborative, hands-on environment. At times, the position may require physical tasks related to event setup and breakdown.

    A typical day for the Development and Marketing Director might involve:

    • Processing and acknowledging recent donations.
    • Drafting content for e-newsletters and social media posts.
    • Meeting with the Executive Director to discuss major gift solicitations.
    • Updating the Grants Master Tracker and researching new grant opportunities.
    • Coordinating with a vendor for the upcoming Gala.
    • Analyzing data from the latest fundraising campaign.
    • Brainstorming new marketing ideas with the team.
