    SkillUp is looking for a Director of Finance & Operations to join our team to set vision and lead the human resources, finance, and technology functions. We seek an individual who is excited about the opportunity to create new systems and procedures from the ground up with prior experience developing systems and policies. This full-time, remote role is critical to the success of SkillUp and will report to the VP of Strategy & Operations.

Through its cutting-edge technology platform and step-by-step career guidance options, SkillUp has connected STARs with career, training, and job support nationwide. The coalition brings together more than 150 leading organizations, including training and education providers, technology developers, policymakers, employers, and philanthropies.

    Description

    Key Responsibilities

    Operations Management and Leadership

    • Leveraging best practice, design and implement operational policies to streamline organizational processes, enhance efficiency, and support organizational growth
    • Identify inefficiencies in existing processes and systems, and lead change management initiatives to streamline operations

    Human Resources

    • Develop and manage hiring strategies, including recruitment, interviewing, selection processes, and offer letter preparation.
    • Design and oversee onboarding programs to ensure a smooth transition for new hires
    • Lead talent development and performance management processes, including mid-year and annual reviews
    • Administer employee benefits programs, including annual benefits selection and updates
    • Ensure HR compliance and record-keeping, including maintaining employee files and updating personnel manuals to align with employment laws

    Finance

    • Design and lead the annual budgeting process, including alignment to organizational priorities, expense forecasting, and co-development with department leads
    • Supervise financial operations, including managing a part-time accountant, processing transactions, and ensuring accurate reconciliation
    • Prepare and analyze financial reports, including monthly budget-to-actual reports and other key financial documents
    • Collaborate with development and grant teams to create and manage grant budgets and financial reporting
    • Oversee vendor relationships and payroll, including contract negotiation, vendor management, and ensuring timely, accurate payroll processing

    Information Technology

    • Set up and manage staff email accounts and Google Workspace, ensuring smooth access to organizational systems
    • Oversee software platforms, maintaining active subscriptions and conducting bi-annual reviews to assess functionality and eliminate redundancies
    • Procure and manage staff equipment, ensuring all team members have up-to-date and functional tools
    • Provide basic IT support, serving as the primary technology help desk for staff
    • Maintain the electronic filing system, ensuring organized and secure digital document storage

    Qualifications

    • Ideally 10 years of experience in nonprofit operations with increasing responsibilities including management of a function
    • Prior experience in finance and/or human resources designing and implementing new systems
    • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize and multitask in a fast-paced environment
    • Comfortable working with senior leaders and under tight deadlines
    • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a track record of implementing process improvements
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across different teams and stakeholders
    • Proven ability to drive results, meet deadlines, and achieve operational targets
    • Experience researching and translating best practice into practical, replicable systems
    • Entrepreneurial mindset — comfortable navigating complexity and identifying new opportunities.

    Compensation & Benefits

    Target salary for this position is $120,000 - $150,000, depending on experience, geography and Internal equity.
