    Position Title: Interim Finance Manager

    Duration: Full Time, Limited Duration for six months

    Compensation: $60,000 - $70,000 per year depending on experience; generous and progressive benefits including medical and dental care 100% of premiums paid by Unite Oregon, paid wellness leave, vacation, flex time, and personal days off; technology reimbursement; 4 hours personal time off/week, $300 annual FSA contribution, 2.5% 401K contribution after 6 months

    Position Description

    The Finance Manager plays an essential role to lead and implement all finance functions of Unite Oregon, managing the daily work of the Finance Team and the legal reporting for Unite Oregon as a 501(c)(3) and its sister 501(c)(4) organization. In addition, this position will work under the direction of the Executive Director to identify and streamline systems to improve the efficiency of organizational financial planning and budgeting. This position reports to the Executive Director.

    Position Responsibilities

    Finance

    • Administer and review financial plans and budgets; monitor progress and changes; report financial status to senior leadership and managers, and on occasion Board Finance Committee.
    • Manages the annual audit process, preparation of IRS form 990, OR form CT-12, 1096/1099 distributions/filing along with all other organizational reporting and compliance. Support Finance Manager with communication with external auditors and lead communication with the board of directors
    • In consultation with the Executive Director, manage the organizational and departmental budget development process, delivering an annual budget for the organization
    • Support the Finance Team in financial reporting and maintaining monthly account reconciliation and financial reporting
    • Supervise and support the Finance Team to implement daily and monthly activities to include accounts receivable/payable, payroll, and cash flow management
    • In collaboration with Development staff, ensure compliance with grant and financial reporting requirements, specifically:
      • Lead on management of grants, contract, and expenditure management for federal awards
      • Ensure staff adhere to financial protocols, procedures, including but not limited to campaign finance obligations, budget allocations and other related policies
    • Implement improvements to financial procedures and systems

    Administration and Operations

    • Provide and train managers and employees on tools, policies, and procedures related to finance operations.
    • Administrate contracts with consultants as needed, to maintain efficient internal systems.
    • Under the direction of the Executive Director, develop and improve policies, procedures and training to focus on the areas of Financial Administration and Budget Management.
    • Manage confidential information with high levels of discretion and professionalism.

    Bookkeeping

    • Manage Finance Team to make accurate payroll allocations including time code offerings and budget reconciliations
    • Train and support managers on budgeting & transaction entry processes
    • Periodically review and quality check the MIP Accounting Software database including but not limited to accounts payable and receivable activities, bank reconciliations, general journal entries, release from restrictions, fixed assets, and other necessary month-end closing activities
    • Manage Finance Team to maintain and update the chart of accounts
    • Manage indirect cost allocation rules and procedures and implement improvements for more effective management of NICRA and ICR internally
    • Monitor bank account activity and review transfer and bill pay information
    • Under the direction of the Executive Director, work to ensure adequate financial reporting across departments and teams of the organization.

    Supervisory Responsibilities

    • Supervise administrative staff, as assigned
    • Participate in the hiring and training of Finance Team staff
    • Organize and oversee the work and schedules of staff
    • Conduct performance evaluations that are timely and constructive
    • Handle discipline and termination of employees as needed and in accordance with company policy

    Preferred Skills, Abilities , and Experience:

    • Commitment to racial justice and passion to champion Unite Oregon’s mission and values
    • At least five to seven years of accounting or bookkeeping experience in a nonprofit organization
    • Proficiency in cloud-based document sharing and editing,
    • Excellent communication skills and ability to work with a diverse, multicultural staff, board, membership, and partners of various backgrounds
    • Familiarity with accounting software, namely MIP
    • Work diligently under tight deadlines
    • Comfortable overseeing multi-entity operations
    • Strong problem solving skills and the ability to adapt and be flexible in a fast paced environment
    • Ability to solve problems creatively and thoroughly, showing consistent curiosity about others while maintaining a high standard of attention to detail across multiple work areas at once
    • Resides in or is willing to relocate to Oregon
