Development Officer

Position Overview

Pivot's national team includes 250+ staff members on the ground in Madagascar. The Development Officer (DO) will join the Global Support Team (GST), a small but growing cohort of internationally-based staff whose collective objective is to be a resource to the in-country team – primarily in fundraising, communications, and partnerships – as Pivot expands its work. As a member of the Development Department, the DO will collaborate with fellow Development team colleagues to lead proposal writing and reporting, as well as research new prospective funders to support Pivot’s fundraising strategy. Members of the GST are fully remote and must be willing to shift working hours to maximize overlap with Madagascar colleagues in the Eastern Africa time zone.

Responsibilities

The DO will report to the Director of Development, and collaborate across the Madagascar-based and global support teams to complete written materials and track down necessary information. Responsibilities include:

• Oversee conception, writing, and preparation of proposals, budgets, reports, and other materials for funders.
  • Ensure quality and timely submission of materials to funders and oversee compliance with partnership requirements
  • Collaborate closely with program staff, leadership, and finance teams to create detailed proposals that align with the strategic goals of the organization
• Support funder prospection and stewardship
  • Leverage prospect research tools to identify potential funding opportunities
  • Conduct comprehensive prospect research to prepare for and lead “go/no-go” meetings with the team to decide whether an opportunity will be pursued
  • Track key funder touchpoints and relationship milestones

Required Qualifications

• Exceptional writing and storytelling skills in English; French comprehension a plus
• Prior work experience or deep understanding of global health issues and programming
• Strong understanding of grant writing techniques and data-driven storytelling; demonstrated evidence of success in nonprofit grant writing
• Comfort synthesizing data and impact information and narratives
• Project and time management, multitasking, flexibility and ability to navigate multiple deadlines
• Ability to proactively engage with multiple stakeholders to gather necessary information and ensure deadlines are met
• Ability to work in a multicultural setting
