    About Recycle Utah

    Recycle Utah (Park City Conservation Association) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit serving Summit County since 1991. Our mission is to empower our community to lead sustainable lives by reducing waste. We run innovative recycling collection programs, environmental education, workshops, and community events—diverting thousands of tons of materials from landfills each year and inspiring action for a more sustainable future.

    Position Summary

    The Executive Director (ED) will be a visionary, strategic, and team focused leader passionate about environmental sustainability. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED will be responsible for all aspects of Recycle Utah’s operations, programs, finances, and community engagement. Acting as the organization’s public face, the ED will elevate Recycle Utah’s profile as a trusted partner and resource within the greater Park City community.

    The ED will inspire and mobilize staff, volunteers, and community stakeholders, expand community partnerships, and strengthen fundraising to secure Recycle Utah’s long-term impact. As the organization enters its next chapter, the ED will provide clear leadership with collaboration, transparency, and open-mindedness, building on a strong history while setting a bold vision for the future of sustainability in Summit County. With the transition to a new facility, the ED will embrace this pivotal move and apply the skills and foresight needed to define and strengthen Recycle Utah’s identity in its new home.

    Key Responsibilities

    Leadership & Vision

    • Partner with the Board to contribute to and execute a forward-looking strategic plan.
    • Inspire staff, board, volunteers, and community members around sustainability and Recycle Utah’s mission.
    • Actively participate in community conversations and regional planning on environmental issues.
    • Embrace the opportunity to finalize plans to relocate our facility and expand services.

    Fundraising & Financial Management

    • Serve as the chief fundraiser; cultivate relationships with donors, sponsors, and foundations.
    • Lead annual fundraising campaigns and major events; explore new revenue opportunities.
    • Develop, monitor, and report on annual budgets; ensure strong financial controls and compliance.

    Board Relations & Governance

    • Identify unmet needs that would invite the engagement, recruitment, and retention of a diverse and skilled Board of Directors.
    • Provide regular updates and recommendations; involve board members as advisors, ambassadors, and fundraisers.

    Staff Leadership & Operations

    • Manage and mentor staff; foster a collaborative, mission-driven work culture.
    • Oversee human resources, payroll, benefits, and compliance.
    • Promote and ensure operational excellence at the recycling center and in all program delivery.

    Program Development & Evaluation

    • Guide and support high-quality recycling and education programs while innovating and adapting for future needs.
    • Evaluate program outcomes and community impact to guide decisions.

    Community Engagement & Advocacy

    • Represent Recycle Utah in the media, at public events, and with civic leaders.
    • Build strategic alliances with environmental organizations, schools, and local governments.
    • Help to guide sustainability education and outreach across Summit County.
    • Cultivate effective relationships with City, County, and state leaders to drive waste diversion and recycling efforts on the Wasatch Back.

    Future Goals and Strategic Priorities

    • Promote and uphold sustainable practices across the organization and community.
    • Deepen Community Impact: Strengthen and expand education, recycling, and waste-reduction programs that meet evolving needs.
    • Advance Sustainability Leadership: Position Recycle Utah as a thought leader and key partner in regional environmental initiatives.
    • Grow Financial Resources: Diversify funding through grants, sponsorships, events, and major donor cultivation.
    • Foster Organizational Excellence: Build a culture of teamwork, diversity, and open communication; modernize systems and processes.
    • Strengthen Partnerships: Collaborate with local governments, nonprofits, schools, and businesses to create impactful solutions.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience (environmental studies, nonprofit management, or related field preferred).
    • 5–7 years of senior nonprofit, environmental, or community leadership experience.
    • Proven success in fundraising, donor relations, and revenue diversification.
    • Strong financial management, budgeting, and operational skills.
    • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication abilities.
    • Knowledge of recycling, solid waste, or sustainability practices is highly desirable.
    • Demonstrated ability to build partnerships and engage stakeholders across diverse sectors.

    Compensation & Benefits

    Competitive salary range between $100,000 - $125,000 annually, commensurate with experience, plus benefits. Specific details will be shared with finalists.
