The Manager of Equity, Access, and Belonging supports the development of a shared organizational understanding of racism as a system and how it intersects with identity and impacts poverty, hunger and the work and mission of ACCFB. Understanding that racism is one of the single biggest drivers that perpetuate poverty in our community, the Manager of Equity, Access, and Belonging will play an essential role developing and supporting effective and high-functioning relationships across the organization. Reporting to the Director of Equity, Access, and Belonging, this position will help strengthen Community relationships, and build capacity for advancing racial and economic justice.

The Equity, Access, and Belonging Manager is responsible for developing a shared organizational understanding of racism as a system and how it impacts poverty, hunger and the work of ACCFB. This is achieved by planning and executing trainings and other learning activities internally and for/with agency network partners that create community, build trust and deepen relationships within ACCFB and between ACCFB and key community partners; supporting staff as we navigate and advocate to end racial injustice; and advising department teams on how to measure and operationalize equity and inclusion learnings.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

Develop and sustain external partnerships to advance systems change objectives

   • Establish meaningful, productive relationships with staff and agency network partners to 

        deeply engage and support building an anti-racist/anti-poverty community of learning and 

        practice. 

   • Collaborate with food bank departments to ensure alignment of DEIB strategies across all  programs. 

   • Engage with Accountability Committee, employee resource groups, and equity work groups 

        to provide support and assistance. 

   • Culturally aware and understands methods to build trust, credibility and navigate a 

        complex landscape as it relates to equity and inclusion. Excellent interpersonal, 

        communication and customer service skills; experience working with diverse 

        socio-economic, racial, and cultural groups.

   • Coordinate and leverage learning and development opportunities, such as training 

        programs, activities, and workshops, to deepen employee understanding of DEIB topics.

   • Monitor food bank’s policies and procedures, ensuring they are equitable and inclusive.


Lead planning and implementation of internal equity and inclusion activities

• Execute equity and inclusion engagement and learning activities at the organizational, 

    division and department levels by working collaboratively to build and sustain ongoing 

    practices that support a culture of belonging for all people (race, ethnicity, gender, 

    disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, socio-economic status, etc.) 

• Onboarding new staff members to ACCFB’s Equity and Inclusion practice.

• Work with Food Bank’s Leadership Team to strategically identify organizational needs, and 

    staff learning and shared experience opportunities, and to operationalize that learning. 

• Contribute to the development of internal equity and inclusion goals and benchmarks, and 

    monitor, track and document progress and change over time. 

• Communicate with staff about internal and external equity and inclusion work via 

    appropriate mediums.

• All other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• 4-6 years of experience, knowledge and/or training with principles and processes for 

    achieving equity and inclusion; experience in a nonprofit environment with a variety of 

    stakeholders and with values deeply rooted in community.

• Experience working with community-based organizations; knowledge of Alameda County 

    and its network of services for low-income children, adults and seniors. 

• Exceptional interpersonal, communication skills; high-level facilitation and presentation    

    skills.

• Proven project management skills, including ability to manage multiple priority projects   

    simultaneously.

 • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team setting with people of diverse 

    backgrounds and circumstances around complex issues of race and inequality.

• Strong computer skills, including Microsoft/Google office software. 

• Proven ability to develop and maintain collaborative and professional relationships.

• Strong organizational skills; attention to detail and experience keeping accurate records on 

    complex programs.

• Valid California Class C Driver’s License, insurable driving record and access to vehicle for 

    spontaneous local travel.


Preferred Qualifications

• Curriculum development and/or teaching experience. 

• Experience in building collaborative initiatives, recruitment, retention and training of staff.

• Bilingual in English/Spanish or English/Asian language.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Physical activities necessary in the performance of this job ability to site at a computer workstation for up to five hours at a time, ability to move throughout the 118,000 sq ft. Food Bank facility in performance of duties, and ability to bend, lift and carry up to 30 lbs. on occasion, ability to visit community settings, ability to conduct site visits including walking, bending, stopping, and squatting. Ability to communicate in clear speaking voice in person, before large groups and over the phone. Ability to interpret instructions and questions when asked. Ability to operate computer equipment. Ability to access transportation to travel to local events and meetings with external parties.

This is a full-time, non-exempt position working Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (7.5-hour workday; 1-hour unpaid lunch). The role will be performed onsite at the Alameda County Community Food Bank office in Oakland, California. The non-negotiable starting salary for this position is $89,544.00 per year. We offer an outstanding benefit package including:
