Cascade Bicycle Club is seeking to hire a Bicycle Mechanic and Assembler. The Bicycle Mechanic and Assembler will serve this dynamic, well-established, and respected organization by demonstrating a passion for bicycling and for growing the influence and impact in pursuing the organization’s mission.


Who We Are/What We Do

Cascade Bicycle Club, the nation's largest statewide bicycle nonprofit, is 10,000-members, 54-years old, and 39-staff strong, serving bike riders of all ages and abilities throughout the state of Washington. We teach the joys of bicycling, advocate for safe places to ride, and produce community rides and events. Our signature programs include the Seattle to Portland ride, the Pedaling Relief Project, advocacy for connected trail networks and on-street bike networks in Seattle and across the Puget Sound Region, Your Streets Your Say, Free Group Rides, Adult Classes, Let's Go, and the Major Taylor Project. 

Washington Bikes promotes the health, safety, environmental, and economic benefits of bicycling. We advocate for people who bike, endorse political candidates, and hold officials accountable. We collaborate with community members and public officials to shape policies and investments in active transportation that create equitable, sustainable, and thriving communities across Washington state.


DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW:

Cascade’s education efforts encourage people to become lifelong riders by reaching them at all stages of life. Our education programming aims to be inclusive of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds, and reaches diverse communities throughout the state. 

We strive to facilitate opportunities for students to become participants in communities of learning that foster empowerment and joy, where the bicycle is a tool for transformation. We commit to a spirit of continuous improvement in both our teaching practice and program development. We believe in the fundamental concept of inclusion and commit to serving all students well by making decisions that prioritize equitable access and support community goals.

The Education Department consists of three distinct teams: 

  • Programs Team 
  • A team of 3 Program Managers, 2-3 Coordinators, and up to 15 part-time employees for two programs: Let’s Go, and Major Taylor Project. 
  • Funding through state grants, fee-for-service contracts, and earned revenue through event registration
  • Works within 6 school districts in the Puget Sound Region and serves audiences from 5 to 80+ years old
  • Statewide Team
  • A team of 3 Program Officers, 2 Partnership Managers, and 1 Finance Manager, 
  • Grows programming based on Let’s Go and Major Taylor Project across the state via passthrough funding from WSDOT
  • This work is funded via contract with WSDOT for 15 years 
  • Fleet & Logistics Team
  • A team of one Fleet Manager, two Coordinators, plus this position.
  • Responsible for Procuring bicycle and trailer fleets for Programs Team and Statewide partners 
  • Manages in-house fleet of 14 towing trailers, 4 towing vehicles, and 700+ bikes (including adaptive bikes) 


The Bicycle Mechanic and Assembler will support Cascade in the acquisition, assembly, maintenance and distribution of bicycle and trailer fleets for the Program Team and Statewide Team.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform fleet maintenance as required by internal CBC programs.
  • Assemble bikes for the expansion of CBC education programs.
  • Perform offsite triage and maintenance for bike fleets in the field.
  • Deliver bicycles and supplies to schools and partner organizations across Washington.
  • Maintain bike inventory and maintenance documentation for bicycles, trailers, and vehicles
  • Assist with maintenance of bike storage areas as well as Cascade's Fix-it Garage bicycle repair shop and teaching space

Skills and Competencies

  • At least 1 year bike shop experience.
  • Ability to drive a vehicle with a trailer or willingness to learn.
  • Commitment to racial and educational equity.

Qualifications 

  • Professional Bicycle maintenance experience.
  • Valid WA Driver’s License or ability to obtain one within 30 days, and a willingness to learn to operate cargo vehicles with towing trailers.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs in the form of moving bicycles to/from storage or on/off trucks and trailers.

Job Details 

This position is part-time, hourly, non-exempt, temporary/seasonal position and will take place in-person. The Bicycle Mechanic and Assembler is a very hands-on position, with a mix of bicycle repair work, and assembly duties. This position will routinely work 25 hours per week. This position will include occasional deliveries of bike fleets across the state. These deliveries will involve long work hours and/or overnight travel.
