Descrição

Position Overview:

The AmeriCorps Community Technology Empowerment Project (CTEP) works to bridge the "digital divide" for low-income communities in the Minneapolis and St. Paul Metropolitan area. CTEP AmeriCorps members serve at some of the Twin Cities' top non-profit organizations assisting adults looking to build job skills, new Americans and youth entering a career pathway, or seniors learning technology skills for the first time. You can apply to more than one position based on your interests. No prior experience is necessary.

Service Terms:

Applicants may choose from three service terms for 12 months:

  • Full-Time: serve a minimum of 1,700 hours or 35 hours per week
  • Three-Quarter-Time: serve a minimum of 1,200 hours or 25 hours per week
  • Half-Time: serve a minimum of 900 hours or 19 hours per week

What You Get to Do:

  • Learn how to teach others about technology literacy (e.g. how to use email, how to format a document in Word or Google Docs, find a friend on Facebook, apply for a job, safely navigate the internet, tell stories using a smartphone)
  • Help those interested to get ready for a skill assessment and oversee the test. Celebrate with them when they pass!
  • Be a part of a cohort that annually certifies over 1,500 community members in technology literacy. Many of these folks find better-paying jobs because of the certification they received.
  • Help strengthen your host-site program through guided research and program development
  • Help identify new volunteers to your host site or help manage existing ones.

What We Do:

  • Match you with a host site that fits your interests, skills, and goals
  • Provide expert-led technical training on what you need to know during service.
  • Provide professional development training and experiences to prepare you for the next step in your career after service.

What We Need From You:

  • High school diploma or GED (or be able to complete one during service)
  • Be a U.S. citizen, naturalized citizen, or permanent resident (required)
  • Commitment to serve for 12 months
  • Ability to use and understand smartphones, computers, and the internet. Anything more advanced is a bonus.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching, coaching, mentoring, or assisting others to learn or do something new.
  • Experience working with people from different racial, cultural, or economic backgrounds is important
