    Organizational and Program Description

The Colorado Perinatal Mental Health Project (CO PMHP) is a nonprofit organization with a mission to transform Colorado into a state where every mother, birther, and family has access to quality, affordable mental health support by connecting families to resources, raising awareness, and offering opportunities for training and support for those who provide care.

Operating under the umbrella of CO-PMHP, The Birth Squad Program launched in 2021 and began with a two-tiered group model that included immediate access to either an open perinatal mood therapy group, run by a licensed mental health provider or a perinatal mental health support group, run by a trained peer facilitator. Since the program launched, the needs of the community have continued to grow, and the Birth Squad subsequently launched a 1:1 therapy program and a prenatal program that is centered on perinatal mental health.

Further, the creation of affinity spaces for Black and Spanish-Speaking/Latinx women and birthing people are a primary focus within our organization. At CO-PMHP, inclusiveness is at the heart of our goals and interests. We seek to make access to perinatal mental health supports a universal for all families, regardless of socioeconomic status, race, ethnicity, language, religion, disability status, gender identity, or sexual orientation. We are committed to anti-oppression efforts as a core focus of our work.

CO-PMHP also serves as the local Colorado Chapter of Postpartum Support International, providing access to resources for moms, birthers, and their families as well as scholarships and professional development and networking opportunities to providers in Colorado.
