Are you passionate about empowering youth through the arts? We are looking to fill Program Coordinator positions in organizations such as Youth Art Exchange. They are based in San Francisco and Youth Art Exchange (YAX) sparks a shared creative practice between professional artists and public high school students, furthering youth as leaders, thinkers, and artists in San Francisco. Their Program Coordinator will gain skills and experience in program design and implementation, public art projects, communications, data management, volunteer coordination, and more, while learning about nonprofit organizations, arts education, and youth development. YAX is a small organization, and interns and volunteers are an integral part of the creative community at YAX. 

What is BAYAC AmeriCorps?

BAYAC AmeriCorps collaborates with schools and community-based organizations to serve youth and families in the San Francisco Bay Area. As part of AmeriCorps, BAYAC Members commit to a full-time (40 hours/week) term of service in the Bay Area's most high-need communities, working to provide youth with opportunities for meaningful engagement, skill building, and emotional and social development. This is a paid work experience program for folks who are looking to advance their career working with youth and in the field of education. We are hiring folks to serve as after-school educators, classroom aides, academic coaches & mentors, tutors, health educators, case managers, and enrichment activities coordinators.

Position duties may include:

  • Gallery and site reception, share basic information about YAX and programs
  • Documentation of programs through videos, pictures, and social media posting
  • Collaborate with other YAX program staff and student interns to lead youth events
  • Coordinate volunteers for programs and special events
  • Support students/youth in developing the skills they need to be successful in school and life
  • Provide homework and academic support for program participants at school sites
  • Provide case management, referrals, and independent living skills for clients at community based sites
  • Plan and facilitate youth focused lesson plans and activities
  • Promote a safe and positive learning environment
  • Actively supervise and ensure student/youth safety at all times
  • Model positive attitudes, behaviors, and language
  • Communicate regularly with the site coordinator and regional supervisor
  • Maintain accurate attendance records and reporting procedures
  • Attend and participate in weekly training and cohort meetings

  • Develop basic teaching skills, including curriculum development, behavior management practices and public speaking/facilitation

  • Promote meaningful community partnerships
  • Become part of a large alumni network

Qualifications:

  • U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or a lawful permanent resident of the United States
  • At least 17 years old
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Ability to work full-time (40 hours/week) and commit to an 11-month term of service
  • Successful completion of TB test and Live Scan/fingerprinting (upon hire)
  • Prefer to have 48 college credits completed
  • Prefer bilingual in Spanish/English, not required
