Position Summary

This position is responsible for the long term management and oversight of all fundraising endeavors, organizational strategy, policy, compliance, and capacity building. Working in conjunction with the Executive Director, the Director of Development works to identify and implement initiatives for organizational growth and success. The Director of Development is responsible for oversight of Federal, State, City, foundation, and private grant funding processes; all matters related to individual, planned, corporate giving; as well as corporate sponsorships, major gifts, donor stewardships, and all marketing and communications. The Director of Development is responsible for facilitating the management of legal and fiscal compliance for the organization. While this position does not operate in the day to day of youth development programming, they prioritize support and opportunities for SFNC programming. This role will manage a development team inclusive of support roles for grant writing and management, marketing and communications, and individual and corporate giving. Reports directly to the Executive Director.

Salary: $70,000-$80,000

Responsibilities

  • Identify, develop, and implement opportunities for strategic growth, including policies and procedures
  • Oversee all fundraising and development initiatives with the support of the development team, including: Federal, State, City, foundation, and private grant funding processes; all matters related to individual planned, and corporate giving; as well as corporate sponsorships, major gifts, donor stewardship, and all marketing and communications
  • Lead the development team by effectively delegating the workload and responsibilities of the funding processes
  • Develop, manage, and secure funding for large-scale projects including: selecting, hiring, and supervising relevant staff; negotiating and managing all project budgets, finances, and compliance; securing and coordinating the necessary physical and digital infrastructures; and overseeing all intellectual property, fiscal, and legal considerations
  • Identify, develop, and implement strategic initiatives to increase local, national, global awareness of SFNC and its innovative solutions supporting the organization’s mission.
  • Collaborate with Program and Operations team to create metrics, gather data, and perform analysis to identify needs, obtain funding, and concretely measure the impact of Center programs and interventions
  • Design alternative funding and income-generating strategies to support long-run Center growth and sustainability
  • Train appropriate staff members on the management and administration of strategic research initiatives
  • Create and codify new methodologies, procedures, and best practices with the goal of scaling and replicating an official SFNC strategy in support of the organization’s mission
  • Act as liaison to universities and research institutions to develop and implement strategic research initiatives to translate academic theory into community-based programs (continuing the partnership with JHU and other organizations)
  • Takes lead in data; manages all community-based data analytics including, but not limited to: survey development, data collection, supervision of employees working on data projects, collaboration with partners and researchers, data analysis, data visualization, and application of results to current strategic initiatives.
  • Compile and analyze SFNC data for annual report
  • Serves as ED’s financial management partner; this includes ACH and banking; board and grant reporting, serves on the Finance Committee, assists with full financial audit
  • Ensures SAM, Good Standing with the State, State of MD Nonprofit registration and tax exemption is up to date; annual nonprofit documents submitted to State of MD to upkeep nonprofit status
  • Ensures new and existing policy for health related matters/safety of Center staff and community is within CDC guidelines, local and state compliance, while balancing with SFNC culture
  • Co-lead strategic initiatives by facilitating/planning SFNC board/staff workshops with the Board President and President Elect to advance the organizational mission
  • Serves as co-chair of the Development Committee
  • Serves on special event committee and contribute to and support the event leads, particularly for fundraising events (Composto Classic golf tournament and Spring Gala)
  • Grant invoicing monthly, grant finances; requires regular upkeep and preparation.
  • Grant management duties, reporting, assist as needed including writing for grants
  • Advocate for and assists with seeking funding, staffing, and support for Center Programming
  • Work with Program and Operations Directors and Staff to ensure all Center needs are met with appropriate financial resources
  • Updates MOU template annually (or as needed) with Community Engagement Manager
  • Manage and track grant timelines and deliverables
  • Prepare and manage grant budgets
  • Manage and review all partner and other staff grants
  • Identify and develop strategies to optimize the grants administration process
  • Design a grant file system for easy access for other staff who may want to write a grant including all standard information needed. Keep items up to date for easy access.
  • Determine funding needs; meet with program staff, event team, and finance committee to help fill funding gaps
  • Review and manage all fiscal partnerships and create a legal system (reviewed by a lawyer) for our fiscal agreements.
  • Attends/assists with fundraisers and special program events
  • Bi-Monthly reports to Executive Director/Board of Directors
  • Weekly staff meetings and notes
  • Yearly attendance to annual strategic planning meeting/retreat
  • Attend professional development workshops
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Diverse knowledge of nonprofit management, grants, fundraising, and educational policy
  • 5 years of relevant work experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree minimum in related field
  • Excellent software skills, especially with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, fundraising software and CRMs
  • Highly detail-oriented, analytical, and self-driven
  • Strong management skills
  • Ability to multi-task and successfully prioritize workload
  • High ability for analytical and strategic thinking
  • Capacity for executive decision-making
  • Strong delegation skills
  • Demonstrated history of managing strategic initiatives
  • Excellent computer-based, telephonic, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Excellent problem solving and decision-making skills
