    The National Health Care for the Homeless Council (the Council) is the premier national organization working at the nexus of homelessness and health care. Since 1986, we have brought together thousands of health care professionals, medical respitecare providers, people with lived experience of homelessness, and advocates. Our Organizational Members include Health Care for the Homeless health centers, respite programs, and housing and social service organizations across the country.     Job Summary

    Reporting to the Director of Marketing and Communications, the Senior Development Manager plays a key role in advancing the Council’s fundraising strategy across all giving levels and funding streams. They will be responsible for helping to meet the organization’s annual philanthropy revenue goal, with a focus on securing and stewarding individual, corporate and institutional donors. The role builds and manages a donor portfolio, supports the full lifecycle of fundraising activities—from prospect identification and cultivation through solicitation and stewardship—and works collaboratively across teams to strengthen the Council’s philanthropic and revenue-generating efforts.

    Job Responsibilities

    Lead Development and Fundraising Initiatives (75%)

    • Implement and help refine the Council’s fundraising plan in partnership with the Director of Marketing and Communications.
    • Support fundraising efforts across all channels, including corporate and foundation, major and mid-level giving, event sponsorships, and individual giving.
    • Identify, research, solicit, and steward relationships with high-capacity donors that include corporate, foundation, and individual prospects.
    • Create initiatives to expand the Council’s prospect pipeline and donor base by accessing new, and leveraging existing, networks through creative communications, cultivation and stewardship tactics
    • In partnership with other staff members, including program and finance staff, develop compelling written proposals, budgets, reports, and collateral materials to secure philanthropic investments.
    • Maintain accurate records and analyze donor data to inform strategy; prepare regular moves management dashboards and progress reports for leadership.
    • Partner with the Director of Marketing and Communications and Senior Grants Manager to align proposal development and funder engagement strategies.
    • Manage donor acknowledgment and stewardship processes to ensure a consistent and personalized donor experience.

    Support Membership and Revenue Growth (15%)

    • Support the revenue generating areas of membership to include new avenues of membership, corporate/entity sponsorships, etc.
    • Develop sponsorship packages, outreach strategies, and fulfillment plans to secure and steward funding for the Council’s annual national conference.

    Compliance and Reporting (10%)

    • Ensure accurate documentation of contributions and grants in collaboration with finance and grants staff.
    • Ensure compliance with IRS and other regulatory standards for fundraising activities.
    • Ensure the effective, useful, and thoughtful building of systems, processes, and measurements to monitor, project, and guide fundraising results and activity, including full utilization of the organization’s donor database system.

    Qualifications

    Education & Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree required.
    • 5–7 years of progressively responsible experience in nonprofit fundraising with demonstrated success securing support from corporations, foundations, and individual donors.
    • Proven success in creating and executing fundraising strategies and plans for growing funding sources, leveraging existing donors and building new partnerships.
    • Exceptional listening, written and verbal communication skills, with an emphasis on the ability to persuade and influence others around ideas, decisions, and financial support; ability to adapt writing style and messaging to align with different audiences
    • A strong understanding of the technical skills needed in a high-functioning development shop, including proficiency with all Microsoft office programs.
    • Knowledge of the federally funded Health Center Program a plus.

    Skills

    • Strong writing and communication skills across audiences, including proposal development.
    • Excellent organizational and project management abilities.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and donor databases (e.g., Salesforce, Raiser’s Edge, NEON).
    • Ability to work independently and as member of a team.
    • Strategic and analytical skills, strong work ethic, and ability to execute needed tasks.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills with a high level of emotional intelligence and passion for creating relationships and drawing out the best in colleagues and prospects.
    • Able to express the mission and values of the National Health Care for the Homeless Council through actions in their work.
    • Preferred: Understand the relationship between health issues and homelessness.

    Physical Demands & Working Conditions
