Background:   

The New York League of Conservation Voters Education Fund (NYLCVEF) is a statewide nonprofit organization dedicated to engaging, educating, and empowering New Yorkers to be effective advocates for the environment in their own communities. We work on a range of environmental issues, including New York’s clean energy transition, clean water for all, environmental justice, voting, zero waste and more. Our activities include nonpartisan civic engagement campaigns, public education events and stakeholder engagement in our five chapter areas: NYC, Long Island, Westchester, Capital Region and Central/Western NY. 


Fellowship Description: 

The NYCVEF Program Fellow will assist the Director of Community & Civic Engagement, the Community Organizer, and the Program Associate with all department activities, specifically the following projects:

  • Participate in direct community outreach at tabling events and helping to maintain an organized calendar of outreach activities.
  • Support the campaign for electric school buses including community outreach, content development, joining relevant meetings, and supporting the NYC and New York State Clean School Bus Coalitions by taking notes and supporting administrative needs
  • Help NYLCVEF staff organize and host nonpartisan candidate forums, which educate voters on where candidates for office stand on key environmental issues by assisting with event planning including the logistics of scheduling, finding a venue, managing food and supplies, and coordinating with partners
  • Work with the team on NYLCVEF’s Our Vote is Our Power program, a nonpartisan education campaign to encourage voter turnout

Responsibilities: 

The Fellow will report to the Director of Community & Civic Engagement and is responsible for the following duties:

Administrative Support (35%): 

  • Participate in regular team meetings to strategize and track progress.
  • Work with team leadership to stay organized and track deliverables and program goals
  • Maintain efficient and easily accessible program files.
  • Use Google Calendar to schedule phone and in-person meetings between NYLCVEF and partner groups
  • Take minutes during meetings and follow-up as needed

Event Planning & Logistics (35%):

  • Draft campaign and educational materials as needed, including for digital content
  • Identify event venues and coordinate pricing, refreshments, and stay within a budget
  • Coordinate with partner groups
  • Conduct outreach and support event promotion

Community Outreach (30%): 

  • Work with the Community Organizer to represent NYLCVEF at community events and tabling opportunities
  • Ensure tabling materials are kept organized and stocked
  • Brainstorm creative new ways of reaching the public through tabling
  • Make calls or work with group of volunteers on call-days or other types of community outreach
  • Help coordinate volunteers for tabling and canvassing events

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Relevant work or volunteer experience preferred, including in community organizing, event planning, communications, project management, advocacy or research
  • Experience or demonstrated interest in sustainability, environmental justice, public health, or transportation issues, as well as advancing the health outcomes of underserved communities
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, a good listener, and an ability to speak respectfully with diverse communities
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented
  • Skilled in Google Suite and Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel
  • Willingness and ability to travel within the city and occasionally the state.

Location: Based in lower Manhattan and works in a hybrid work environment.

Weekly Hourly Requirements: 20-30 hours to be coordinated

Compensation: $25/hr.
