Allegheny County Organizer

One Pennsylvania is seeking a Pittsburgh organizer to join One PA's organizing department and will work with a team of organizers in Allegheny County. The ideal candidate will have experience in a working class, base-building organization. This organizer will understand systemic inequities, have a commitment to social justice, and have relevant lived experience. They will have a collaborative spirit and work with the other departments at One PA. Because no single candidate will meet all of the qualifications, we are willing to train those who show promise and encourage you to apply.

Reports To: Organizing Director

RESPONSIBILITIES

Base Building

• Identify, engage, and recruit new members to participate in and join One PA meetings, issues, and campaigns
• Ensure base building goals are met by executing outreach tactics such as: flyering, outdoor canvassing, phone calls, text messages, follow-up with hot leads, and social media

Member Leadership Development

• Develop leadership development skills plan for member leaders
• Build and sustain a committee of active members
• Track leadership growth in digital databases

Campaigns 

• Supporting development of building assemblies/meetings and direct action tactics
• Prepare and facilitate internal and external group meetings 
• Work collaboratively with One PA's political, operations, civic engagement, development, and communications departments 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

• You trust in community wisdom, have love for the people we work with, and center those who have been most directly impacted by the issues. 
• At least one year of organizing and base-building experience in community, faith-based, student, or labor organizations as paid staff or core volunteer or a track record of and dedication to “giving back to your community”
• Strong communication and emotional intelligence skills; excellent at building relationships and moving people to action
• You are self-motivated and able to work independently and proactively. You have strong time management skills and are able to handle multiple tasks, projects, and deadlines. 
• Flexible and responsive. Programs and tactics will be on some nights and weekends, sometimes in
• response to changes and opportunities outside of our control.
• Licensed driver with access to a vehicle
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, and Google Suite and comfort with technology for use of EveryAction, a digital database for tracking membership and events

Conditions: The position will be based in Pittsburgh. One PA provides mileage reimbursement at the federal rate and lodging when working away from home. Willingness to travel and the ability to competently navigate the city is required. Occasional opportunities to travel across the state or country for training or with members can be reasonably expected. One Pennsylvania provides mileage reimbursement at the Federal rate, per diem and lodging when working away from home. Physical requirements include walking outdoors year-round for multiple hours at a time, climbing stairs, and the ability to lift 25 pounds.  

COMPENSATION: 

The salary range for this position will be $48,000-$65,000 depending on experience. The benefits package includes a fully paid health insurance plan and an optional 401K with a generous employer match after 6 months. Professional development opportunities. Generous paid time off allowances.p
