    About The Sentry

The Sentry is an investigative and policy organization that seeks to disable multinational predatory networks that benefit from violent conflict, repression, and kleptocracy.

Pull back the curtain on wars, mass atrocities, and other human rights abuses, and you’ll find grand corruption and unchecked greed. These tragedies persist because the perpetrators rarely face meaningful consequences. The Sentry aims to alter the warped incentive structures that continually undermine peace and good governance. Our investigations follow the money as it is laundered from war zones to financial centers around the world. We provide evidence and strategies for governments, banks, and law enforcement to hold the perpetrators and enablers of violence and corruption to account. These efforts provide new leverage for human rights, peace, and anti-corruption efforts.

    Position Summary

The Sentry is seeking a skilled and creative Publications Designer to support our communications team on a part-time basis. This role will focus on the visual design and layout of our investigative reports, policy briefs, and other publications, as well as designing charts, infographics, social media graphics, and other visual assets that enhance the impact and clarity of our work. This is an ideal opportunity for a designer with a strong eye for visual storytelling and an interest in supporting human rights and anti-corruption work.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Design and format reports, publications, and statements in line with The Sentry’s branding and style guidelines.
    • Create compelling data visualizations, infographics, charts, social media graphics, and report cover images that bring complex, hard-hitting investigations to life.
    • Collaborate with researchers, editors, and communications staff to conceptualize and produce publication-ready materials.
    • Ensure accuracy, consistency, and visual clarity across all graphic assets.
    • Manage multiple assignments and deliver high-quality design work on tight deadlines.

    Qualifications

    • 3+ years of experience in graphic design, particularly with publication layout and infographic creation.
    • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop); experience with Figma or Canva is a plus.
    • Strong understanding of visual hierarchy, typography, and brand consistency.
    • Ability to interpret and visualize complex data in a clear and accessible way.
    • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to high-quality design.
    • Experience working with nonprofits, journalism, or advocacy organizations is a plus.
    • Strong proficiency in English, including the ability to follow editorial guidelines and communicate effectively with a U.S.-based team.
    • Experience working with multiple languages, including long form publication layouts.
    • Discretion and security-conscious, working with information and materials that are often sensitive and confidential.

    Time Commitment & Compensation

This is a contract position requiring 40 hours per month, typically 8-12 hours per week, involving fast-paced projects and strict deadlines. The role would start with a three month contract with the opportunity for extension. Compensation is competitive and commensurate with experience.
