Neighborhood Land Power Project’s (NLPP) mission is to build a neighborhood-rooted food and land system through community leadership development and land-based strategies in West Philadelphia.

Position Summary: The Communications & Development Coordinator is responsible for carrying out the tasks outlined in our organizational fundraising plan and creating and implementing a communications strategy. All work is expected to be done in alignment with NLPP’s mission, values, politics, and priorities.

Status: Exempt, full time

Salary Range & Benefits: $45,000 - $47,000 with a $200 monthly fringe benefit stipend

Location: This is a Philadelphia based position that is a hybrid of in-person and remote work.

Major Responsibilities:

Strategic Communications:

  • Ensure NLPP and its mission, programs, and activities are consistently presented with a strong, impactful image to the public that further reinforces NLPP’s rebrand.
  • Develop a strategic communications plan with NLPP’s stakeholders that aligns with the organization’s mission, values and vision.
  • Maintain healthy and consistent communication with partners, funders, community members, etc. through newsletters, social media, annual reports, website, and community forums
  • Work with staff, community members, and volunteers to capture photos, stories, and testimonials of the work being done by NLPP on the ground and in the community.
  • Collaborate and communicate with staff to stay tuned in to important and relevant organizing efforts (particularly land-based).

Fundraising & Development:

  • Work with Co-Directors to design and implement an annual fundraising plan that supports organizational financial health and meets budget goals. Ensure that the fundraising plan is sustainable and includes diverse funding streams.
  • Consistently follow and update NLPP’s grants calendar to submit reports and new proposals on time.
  • Maintain relationships with current funders and develop strategic relationships with new prospective funders, both individual and institutional.
  • Engage NLPP’s Board of Directors in fundraising efforts and consistently update them on the status of the annual fundraising plan. Attend board meetings as requested.
  • Work with Co-Directors to ensure compliance with contracts and grant agreements.
  • Align communications and fundraising plans to ensure that the messaging is consistent.

Organizational Capacity

  • Participate in and support organizational capacity-building activities, including managing resources, record-keeping, staff meetings and events, reporting/documentation, organizational/programming assessments, partnership development, and on-the-ground work.
  • Seek opportunities for personal and professional growth that forwards NLPP’s work and strategy.

Qualifications:

Education: Minimum: Bachelor’s Degree

Experience: 5-7 years of experience in working in mission-driven, non-profit and/or community-based work; and at least 2-3 years in a leadership capacity. Experience working with and leading diverse groups; ability to communicate effectively and impactfully across racial, ethnic, generational, social economic, gender, etc. differences.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Can work collaboratively in teams, while also independently managing their own work projects.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills across multiple platforms. Strong writing skills that are translatable and adaptable to various mediums including grant-writing, email blasts, social media posts, and newsletters
  • Ability to self-manage and complete work within required deadlines.
  • Skilled at relationship-building across various stakeholders including funders, donors, partners, volunteers and neighbors.
  • Strong alignment to the mission, vision and values of NLPP. Have a thorough understanding of community organizing, and strong interest in growing their knowledge of the principles and practices of food and land justice.

Abilities: Ability to engage in strenuous and challenging organizational tasks as necessary while modeling endurance and emotional intelligence. Comfortable working collaboratively with internal staff, board and community members; and externally with a diversity of stakeholders, from informal networking to formal presentations.

Other Requirements: Can pass all background checks as required by the organization.

Note: This role does not require extensive fundraising experience to apply. There must be a demonstration of translatable skills and a clear expression of interest and passion to develop these skills in the role. Our preference is for mission-aligned candidates, with strong communication (verbal and writing) and relationship-building skills, and high levels of initiative to lead in their areas of work.
