JOB DESCRIPTION:

We are seeking a Research Fellow who embodies the values, principles, and priorities that guide our initiatives as we continue to make a lasting impact on the future.

SWE is seeking a graduate student to support the SWE Research Division on a part-time basis. This position provides an opportunity for a student interested in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) diversity to work on various projects related to gender equity in STEM education, workforce, and international sectors. Responsibilities may include the collection, review, identification, and analysis of research data and relevant literature as well as ensuring that the data shared on https://swe.org/research/ are continuously updated. The selected candidate will report to the Director of Research and Impact.


CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Maintenance of the data and information on the SWE Research web pages. (60%)

2. Research activities associated with SWE quantitative and qualitative studies (15%)

3. Assistance with research dissemination, including the development of reports, blog posts, articles for SWE Magazine, and infographics (15%)

4. Other duties as assigned (10%)


DESIRED SKILLS:

• Experience with quantitative and qualitative research methodologies. 

• Proficiency in navigating and extracting data from national and international sources, including but not limited to the National Center for Science and Engineering Statistics, IPEDS, Census Data, and OECD Data. 

• Experience with WordPress.

• Ability to summarize and analyze research results in a meaningful way. 

• Experience with MS Excel and creating tables, charts, and graphs. 

• Familiarity with design software such as Canva or equivalent tools. 

• Possess strong organizational and time management skills.

• Demonstrate professional written and oral communication skills.

• Possess the ability to meet deadlines and deliver results with limited supervision.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.


TRAVEL & SCHEDULE:

This is a paid, part-time position. The selected candidate is expected to work 10-15 hours a week (exact hours negotiable, to be agreed upon prior to hiring). This is a contracted position from July 2024 through December 2024, with the possibility of extension. The exact start date is flexible. Work will be performed remotely. No travel is required.


EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

• Status as a graduate student in a STEM Education, Sociology, or similar program.

• Interest in STEM and gender equity issues. 

• Comfortable working independently.
