Overview

Travel Unity is seeking a full-time Deputy Director to join its passionate, dedicated team.

The Deputy Director will play a pivotal role in supporting the Executive Director in overseeing the organization's internal operations, strategic planning, and program management and will support the entire Travel Unity team in achieving our organizational objectives.

Position Summary

Reporting directly to the Executive Director, the Deputy Director will collaborate closely with staff, Directors, Advisors, and Travel Unity Alliance members to execute Travel Unity's mission and goals.

The Deputy Director will primarily focus on internal operations, member engagement (both prospective and current members), staff management, and organizational development, while also providing strategic input and oversight of key programs and initiatives.

It is a multifaceted role, requiring an individual with strong leadership skills, exemplary time management abilities, an empathetic communications style, and a flexible mindset to grow with an organization shifting into its next phase.

Key Responsibilities

Internal Operations and Staff Management

  • Work with and support Executive Director in strategic planning, operations, and project management
  • Collaborate with department heads on day-to-day operations, ensuring smooth functioning within and across departments.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to staff members, fostering a positive and inclusive work environment
  • Work with staff to create and follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Develop and implement systems for monitoring and evaluating program outcomes and impact
  • Manage performance evaluations for staff members
  • Engage as needed with Board of Directors, Board of Advisors, Committees, and Working Groups

Resource Development and Fundraising Support

  • Work with and support the Executive Director in developing and implementing fundraising strategies and initiatives, including reaching out to potential Alliance members, potential consulting clients, potential sponsors and donors, etc.
  • Assist in cultivating relationships with current Alliance members, donors, sponsors, and funding partners.
  • Represent the organization as needed on online meetings and, as appropriate, at in-person events.
  • Provide support and guidance to staff members involved in fundraising activities, including grant writing and donor stewardship.

Collaboration and External Relations

  • Represent Travel Unity in meetings, conferences, and other external events, as directed by Executive Director
  • Assist with in-person and online event logistics both in advance of and at Travel Unity events, including regional Summits, awards gala, Forums, and webinars


Required Qualifications

  • Strong leadership skills, with a proven ability to inspire, motivate, and empower team members while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and inclusivity
  • Exemplary time management and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage multiple responsibilities efficiently in a remote work setting
  • Demonstrated experience in project management
  • Demonstrated experience in sales/business development
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic planning
  • Experience with utilizing project management software/platforms
  • Comfort communicating via Google Chat
  • Comfort using Google Docs Editors (i.e. Google Docs, Google Forms, Google Sheets, etc.)
  • Comfort with utilizing generative AI
  • Proven track record of successful collaboration with diverse stakeholders and partner
  • Impeccable written and verbal communication with the ability to articulate ideas, convey information, and inspire action to different audiences
  • Demonstrated adaptability in navigating dynamic work environments and adjusting to evolving priorities.
  • Proven ability to collaborate seamlessly with cross-functional teams and diverse stakeholders to drive organizational success.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a demonstrated ability to identify challenges, devise innovative solutions, and implement effective problem-solving strategies.
  • Flexible approach to tasks and responsibilities, including a willingness to support event logistics and fundraising efforts as part of a dynamic team.
  • Demonstrated empathy in understanding and addressing the needs and perspectives of staff, donors, and stakeholders, cultivating positive relationships and a supportive work environment.


Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in nonprofit management, organizational leadership, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in the travel industry (in any role).
  • Demonstrated experience in business administration, tourism and/or hospitality management, public administration, public policy, and/or cultural studies.


Time commitment

  • 40 hours a week. Must do the majority of work during U.S. East Coast working hours.


Location

  • Remote, with occasional travel as needed, especially for Travel Unity events. Strong preference for individuals located in U.S. Eastern time zone, but not required.


Salary

  • $5,000/mo starting salary - non-negotiable at this time
