Description

The Alliance of Ohio Legal Aids is an association of the state’s nonprofit legal aid offices that provide free legal assistance to low-income Ohioans who meet income eligibility guidelines. The Alliance represents hundreds of legal aid practitioners and other staff across the state dedicated to addressing the civil legal needs of low-income and marginalized Ohioans.

The Alliance of Ohio Legal Aids is seeking a dedicated professional Alliance Manager, who will be employed by the Ohio Poverty Law Center (OPLC). The Alliance Manager will provide strategic direction and support to the Board of the Ohio Alliance of Legal Aids to create a statewide plan to advance the development, visibility, and goals of the Alliance.

This position will serve as the manager of the Alliance and related work-groups. They will provide oversight and support, including but not limited to, coordination, administration, communications, advocacy, collaboration, and resource development for Alliance activities and associated projects.

You Will:

  • Represent the interests of the Alliance in the legal services community, with state and local partners, and in the wider community as a whole.
  • Find opportunities and coordinate Alliance participation on work-groups, committees, and boards.
  • Support in-district contact and educational opportunities with members of the General Assembly and key administrative staff
  • Identify and coordinate statewide opportunities to increase funding for legal aid including, general revenue and other state government resources, statewide or regional proposals when appropriate, funding for statewide and local advocacy, other fundraising opportunities that do not compete with individual program efforts.
  • Work with the Alliance Chair to facilitate meeting dates & scheduling, agendas, minutes, and follow up on agenda items and assigned tasks.
  • Coordinate in-person meetings for Alliance members.
  • Collect annual data on services and finances to produce aggregate data for the state.
  • Coordinate the planning and execution of statewide priority projects.
  • Manage task-force listserv memberships, leadership rosters, and catalogue and monitor annual advocacy plans.
  • Finalize and maintain the Alliance website.
  • Develop guidelines for Alliance social media presence, growing the use of the social media in support of the Alliance and legal aid offices.
  • Develop media outreach and social media campaigns on relevant issues in coordination with Alliance members’ communication staff.
  • Identify substantive experts to fill training, presentation, and other meeting needs.
  • Coordinate Alliance participation in partner events.


Requirements

You Have:

  • Demonstrated project management and organizational skills.
  • Capacity to successfully lead, manage and develop a diverse team of professionals
  • High ability to follow through with all projects and assignments, follow timelines and meet scheduled deadlines.
  • Demonstrated capability to represent the Alliance to local and statewide nonprofit and government organizations professionally and effectively.
  • Skills and ability to build mutually beneficial relationships with an array of entities to support the mission of the Alliance.
  • High ability to interact with internal and external contacts with diplomacy, tact, professionalism, and discretion.
  • Excellent communication & interpersonal skills, both orally and written, with diverse audiences.
  • A commitment to diversity and inclusion both internally and externally.
  • Ability to prioritize workload to manage time and tasks and delegate responsibilities in an effective and efficient manner.
  • Ability to travel throughout Ohio on a regular basis.
  • Ability to meet expectations in a virtual, hybrid and in-person work environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications, website management and listserv management and additional knowledge of current technologies as applicable with a commitment to remain up to date with industry best practices.
  • English language proficiency is essential and Spanish/English bilingual skills are a plus. Additional languages – even better.
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public affairs, pre-law or related field.
  • Prior Legal or related work experience a plus, but not required.


Other Details:

  • This exempt position reports to the OPLC Director with substantive responsibility to the Chair of the Alliance Board.
  • The position is intended to be based in Columbus, Ohio, however applicants located in other Ohio locations may be considered.
  • The position requires regular travel throughout Ohio. Due to travel requirements, a hybrid work environment is anticipated.
  • Salary begins around $60,000 and up to $70,000 annually, commensurate with level of experience and in line with professional positions employed by Alliance members. OPLC offers an excellent comprehensive benefits package, paid time off and ongoing training and development opportunities.
