NYLCV Opportunity: Summer Organizer

Duration: Approximately 12 weeks, but up to 24 weeks

Position Type: Part-time contract, 15-25 hours per week

Compensation: $20 / hour

Location: [New York City, New York State] Note: we are looking to hire two to three different people with one of them based in Long Island, one based in the Capital Region, and one based in New York City. 


About The New York League Of Conservation Voters:

NYLCV is a non-profit community-focused advocacy group committed to environmental justice and sustainable initiatives. We empower local communities through education, outreach, and advocacy campaigns aimed at promoting clean energy solutions and equitable public spaces.


Position Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Summer Organizer to join our team for a summer fellowship. This position will support the programs team in various outreach, research, and advocacy efforts related to electric school buses (ESBs), clean water, offshore wind, funding for parks, and voter engagement. 


Key Responsibilities:

- Assist in community outreach efforts to promote awareness and advocacy for NYLCV’s environmental priorities including ESBs, offshore wind, NYC Parks, clean water, and voting

- Represent NYLCV-EF at tabling events and community engagements during weekdays and weekends

- Support data entry for campaigns 

- Make calls or work with group of volunteers on call-days or other types of community outreach

- May conduct research on electric school buses (ESBs), offshore wind, voting, and other topics

- May develop advocacy materials (e.g., presentations, fact sheets, one pagers) for campaigns, such as ‘Offshore Wind’, ‘Play Fair for Parks’, ‘The ESB3 Project’ and ‘Our Vote is Our Power’

Qualifications:

- Strong interest in environmental issues, renewable energy, and social justice

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

- Highly organized and detail-oriented

- Ability to work independently and as part of a team

- Previous experience in environmental advocacy, community organizing, project management or related fields is preferred but not required

- Experience with Google Suite

- Experience working with volunteers is a plus

- Ability to attend events and meetings on weekends or outside of traditional work hours
