The Adler Planetarium connects people to the universe and each other. Whether it is introducing a guest to the Ring Nebula, a neighborhood school to a community partner, a research team to a network of citizen scientists, or one staff member to another, the Adler’s focus on meaningful connections dates back nearly a century.


Today, the museum hosts more than half a million visitors each year and reaches millions more through youth STEM programs, neighborhood skywatching events, online citizen science, and other outreach projects. With the Adler’s support, people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities gain the confidence to explore their universe together and return to their communities ready to think critically and creatively about any challenge that comes their way.


The Position

The Adler Planetarium is seeking a Manager, Institutional Giving to join our dynamic team located on Chicago's Museum Campus. The Manager of Institutional Giving reports to the Adler’s Senior Director of Development and plays an integral role in securing contributed revenue from corporations, foundations, and professional services firms. The Manager  is a member of a hard-working professional team that works collaboratively to ensure that our donors are part of the fabric of our institution. This individual will also be responsible for:


  • Overseeing and growing  Adler’s institutional giving program by ensuring all proposals, reports, letters of intent, and other materials are delivered mistake-free and in a timely manner.  Working closely with program staff to write compellingly about the impact that an institution can make. 
  • Overseeing moves management efforts through coordination, tracking, and reporting of donor correspondence and managing the institutional portfolio calendar, tracking deadlines, planning and drafting stewardship materials, and organizing meetings between Adler CEO, program staff and others as warranted.
  • Overseeing monthly and quarterly institutional giving meetings by maintaining Institutional giving tracker. Provide departmental administrative support, such as gift acknowledgments, donor inquiries, and maintaining donor records. 
  • Supporting sponsorship efforts for C-Bash, the Adler’s  annual fundraising gala, including tracking, invoice support and donor recognition for donor materials. 
  • Conducting prospect research to identify, cultivate and solicit new foundation supporters.


FT The Compensation & Benefits

Base Pay: range: $62,300-67,894.65/yr

Work-Life Balance

  • 35 hour workweek
  • 3 sick days as of date of hire (can accrue up to 6.5 days per year)

The Person

Brief qualifications summary – may include soft skills like attention to detail, strong communication skills, ability to multitask, etc.


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or 5 + years professional work experience
  • Demonstrated ability to write grammatically correct proposals, correspondence.
  • Knowledgeable in Raiser’s Edge or Salesforce database, Google office, Tableau a plus
