    About the Position

    The Assistant Director of Peer Education Initiatives serves as both a product manager and program strategist for NASPA’s peer education portfolio. This position oversees the strategic direction, development, and performance of NASPA’s Peer Education Initiatives (PEI), including Certified Peer Education (CPE) Training Programs and other campus-based training products. Acting as the primary point of contact for both internal and external partners, the Assistant Director manages the full product lifecycle—from concept and curriculum design to implementation, marketing, sales and continuous improvement.

    In this role, the Assistant Director combines data-driven decision making and relationship management to drive the adoption and expansion of NASPA’s training offerings across member and non-member campuses. This includes leading outreach, marketing, and sales efforts to ensure strong engagement and annual growth in program participation. The position also supports over 900 peer education programs nationwide through training delivery, technical assistance, and the development of innovative tools and resources that advance student well-being and leadership.

    As a member of the Health, Safety, and Well-being department, the Assistant Director contributes to strategic planning, evaluation, and program implementation across departmental initiatives and collaborates with colleagues to achieve NASPA’s mission of promoting student success and healthy campus environments.

    Essential Responsibilities

    Training Programs (45%)

    • Create and improve training programs and supplemental materials to training programs, including screening and brief intervention trainings for student affairs staffs, foundational peer education training, and supplemental peer education training modules covering common content areas (alcohol, inclusivity and diversity, nutrition, cannabis, etc.).
    • Evaluate training program objectives as part of an overall project evaluation to determine training program success.
    • Deliver on-site trainings. This position is expected to provide 16-24 trainings, annually. Trainings will primarily focus on the education of undergraduate student leaders, but may also include trainings for graduate students, student affairs staff, and campus faculty. These may consist of in-person and online elements.
    • Provide support for trained trainers in the CPE program. This position will coordinate and provide technical assistance for all individual NASPA members who complete the CPE Train-the-Trainer program.
    • Market and schedule on-site trainings. The assistant director of peer education initiatives and training programs will be responsible for marketing the training programs to book trainings and reach the expected 40-50 trainings annually, reaching out to nearby campuses during travel, calling and emailing potential sites, and maintaining relationships with campus contacts.
    • Promote on-campus trainings during the NASPA Annual Conference and additional industry-related conferences throughout the year

    Peer Education Initiatives (45%)

    • Lead the program planning and execution of an annual peer education conference (as part of the NASPA Strategies Conferences) for approximately 250 students and 75 professional advisors.
    • Create and disseminate peer education resources to identified peer education groups, including best practices guides, content-specific. This will include the development of online learning content.
    • Market peer education initiatives to NASPA member campuses.
    • Support the collection of data and dissemination of results for the National Peer Educator Study (NPES).
    • Track and identify peer education programs at NASPA institutional member campuses.

    Other Responsibilities (10%)

    The Assistant Director will serve larger organizational and departmental initiatives, working to help develop and support as follows:

    • Respond to all inquiries in a timely manner, providing excellent customer service
    • Assist with and attend national conferences as assigned
    • Assists with all-team projects and participates actively in staff meetings and projects
    • Provide customer service to NASPA members and other partners via telephone or video calls, e-mails, and other forms of communication
    • Utilize NASPA’s systems to provide technical assistance to member campuses
    • Participate in all departmental meetings and all NASPA organizational meetings
    • Develop proposals to expand grant funding, training consulting, or other sources of income for the work of NASPA’s health, safety, and well-being initiatives
    • Other activities, duties, and responsibilities as assigned to support the association

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree required. Educational background and experience in student development, higher education administration, leadership development, or health promotion preferred.
    • At least 3 years of experience, including facilitating trainings and writing or refining curriculum.
    • Ability to travel independently, including: access to a major airport, frequent air travel, driving a rental car, staying overnight in a hotel, being productive while traveling, scheduling travel arrangements, making decisions about travel that match commitments and departmental requirements, and communicating effectively with supervisor during transit.
    • Excellent written and verbal communications skills required.
    • Demonstrated presentation and facilitation skills.
    • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to establish priorities, manage multiple demands and projects, and meet deadlines.
    • Experience with Microsoft Office products, Asana, Salesforce, LMS (Elevate) and the ability to learn new technologies/computing applications easily.
    • Experience in a professional association, in higher education, and/or experience as a peer education advisor is preferred.

    Employment Status:

    Full-time Exempt: Exempt employees by definition are exempt from overtime compensation requirements of the federal Fair Labor Standards Act, and are required to work as the job demands on a no time limit basis.

    Candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S. NASPA does not initiate, extend or provide immigration or work visa sponsorship for employment.

    Salary

    The salary for this position is $69,000.

    Office Location/Working Conditions/Physical Requirements

    Office Location

    This position may be based anywhere in the contiguous 48 states, but must be based near a major international airport.

    It is the employee’s responsibility to provide reliable internet capabilities for any work location outside of the Washington, D.C. office.

    Travel

    Frequent overnight travel to represent NASPA at events, on college and university campuses, and/or in-person meetings is an essential function of this position. Locations vary and can include sites outside of taxi service from major airports. As a result, the position is required to have the ability to travel independently, including air travel, navigating ground transportation, and occasionally driving a rental car.

    Physical Requirements

    • This position is primarily office-based with primary work on a computer, including phone, email, and video conferencing.
    • Responsibilities occasionally may require an adjusted work schedule, overtime, and evening/weekend hours in order to meet deadlines and support events and programs.
