    The Role

    We are seeking a Housing Coordinator to support families as they search for and secure permanent housing. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who understands New York City’s housing landscape, values building strong community connections and is passionate about helping families transition to safe, stable homes.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Guide families impacted by domestic or gender-based violence through the housing search and application process.
    • Identify potential barriers to housing and work with clients to develop a long-term plan to secure stable housing.
    • Work closely with Case Managers to develop housing strategies and advocate for supportive housing placements.
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with landlords, brokers and housing providers to identify appropriate and affordable rental units for clients.
    • Assist clients navigate the placement process--including inspections, rent reasonableness determinations and paperwork related to rental assistance--through move-in.
    • Communicate with landlords regarding rental assistance and advocate for clients with landlords, brokers and management companies, as needed.
    • Organize housing-related workshops, fairs and networking opportunities for clients.
    • Schedule and, when necessary, accompany clients to apartment viewings and interviews.
    • Establish effective communication with HRA, NYCHA, NYC Housing Connect, housing providers and other external partners and government entities.
    • Maintain accurate housing documentation and prepare reports for Turning Point and funders.
    • Participate in meetings, fairs and trainings to remain informed on understanding the housing system.

    What We’re Looking For / Qualifications

    • Commitment to Turning Point’s mission, vision and values.
    • Bachelor’s degree required; 1-2 years of experience in domestic violence services, housing, economic empowerment or a related field preferred.
    • Knowledge of local and federal housing subsidies, e.g., CityFHEPS, FHEPS, Section 8, etc.), supportive housing and entitlement systems (HRA, NYCHA, HUD, etc).
    • Experience working with at-risk or homeless families.
    • Ability to travel within NYC as needed to support participants and program activities.
    • Professional proficiency in one or more of the following languages: Arabic, Bangla, Hindi, Punjabi and Urdu.
    • Strong networking and relationship-building skills with landlords brokers and housing providers.
    • Responsible, flexible, self-motivated and able to work independently.
    • Professional, reliable and detail-oriented.
    • Available to work occasional evenings and weekends for apartment viewings and lease signings.

    Compensation

    $25-30/hour
