Position Summary

BFF is seeking a Senior Director of Resource Mobilization (SDRM). This is an ideal opportunity for a radical, proven development leader to join an impactful organization focused on building and nourishing the leadership of fierce Black feminists, fortifying aligned organizations and movements, and shifting cultural norms.

Reporting to the Founder/Executive Director, this position will be the lead strategist and project manager focused on reaching $10M in revenue in the upcoming year. The SDRM will lead, manage, and coordinate all fundraising efforts to increase the organization's support from corporations, foundations, and individuals. The SDRM will manage one full-time Resource Mobilization Manager and has the opportunity to hire a Resource Mobilization Coordinator to serve in a support capacity.

Major gift work across corporate partners, foundations, and major donors will be a priority for this position. The SDRM will be responsible for implementing a multi-faceted corporate partnership program to deeply engage current corporate partners and grow relationships with prospects. The SDRM will share a foundation portfolio with the Executive Director and will aid in grant writing, deepening relationships with current funders, and identifying and developing new national and local funders. In addition, she/he/they will be responsible for implementing a robust individual giving program to manage major donor prospects and develop the major donor pipeline. Identifying, cultivating, and stewarding individual major donors will be an essential aspect of this position.

The SDRM can expect her/his/their work to include:

Leadership and Development Strategy

  • Develop, manage, and execute BFF’s development and stewardship plans to achieve annual revenue goals
  • Update existing development and stewardship plans annually with new ideas, industry best practices, and data-driven analysis
  • Ensure BFF’s development plan aligns with and is in service of the evolving organizational goals
  • In partnership with the Executive Director, set annual revenue goals
  • Ensure a robust gift pipeline big enough to hit annual revenue goals by actively managing prospective and current corporations, foundations, and individual donors
  • Project manage the Executive Director’s fundraising work, directing her where and how best to spend her time and efforts on a weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis
  • Cultivate relationships with all board of directors to support their strategic development efforts, provide training, and facilitate the process to develop potential funder parameters
  • Monitor and report regularly on the progress of the development plan, providing actionable analysis for the Executive Director and board of directors
  • Identify suspected revenue gaps and develop tactics to generate new leads.
  • Contribute positively to BFF’s organizational culture and lead with BFF’s values

Corporate and Foundation Fundraising

  • Collaborate with the Executive Director to codify and implement a corporate partnership model that aligns with the organization’s values
  • Build personal relationships with foundations and corporate funders. Research, design, and lead moves management plans
  • Ensure BFF has a robust pipeline of local, regional, and national grant opportunities to pursue
  • Working with the Executive Director and Resource Mobilization Manager, create and manage a grant calendar to track all upcoming applications and reports
  • Clearly and effectively draft dynamic, reader-friendly, and high-quality writing that is free of typos and captures the voice of Black feminism and BFF values
  • Collaborate across teams to gather materials and requirements for grant applications and reports

Individual & Membership Giving

  • Research, design, and lead the moves management plans for major individual donors. Manage a portfolio of major donors and oversee the development of the mid-level donor pipeline
  • Oversee the management and development of existing initiatives, appeals, and campaigns focused on targeting new and stewarding existing individual donors
  • Collaborate with the Director of Organizing and Membership for annual membership revenue strategy

Development Communications

  • Collaborate with the Narrative Power department to develop empowering and mission-focused fundraising messaging that effectively articulates the special role and impact BFF in the community
  • Collaborate with the Narrative Power staff to update the communications plan/calendar to support development goals and work together to ensure opportunities for both programs and development are elevated
  • Seek the insight of the Managing Director of Programs and their staff to effectively share their expertise, vision, and impact with donors

Development Operations and Revenue Tracking

  • Establish and monitor annual and long-term revenue goals and budgets
  • Design and update regular progress-to-goal reports and development dashboard for the Executive Director
  • Spearhead development-focused data input and ensure accuracy in all records and development reports in BFF’s CRM system (EveryAction)
  • Work closely with the Resource Mobilization Manager, Finance and Operations Manager, and accountant to ensure data integrity
  • Work closely with the Infrastructure and Operations team to support the management of restricted funds and donor-required reporting

About You

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 7 years of nonprofit development experience
  • A minimum of 3 years of nonprofit leadership experience and supervising staff, with a strong track record of building teams and developing staff leadership
  • Demonstrable experience with building successful corporate partnerships, foundation relations, and individual major gift relationships
  • In-depth experience working with community, labor, or electoral organizations with success in sustaining a $5M - $10M budget
  • Commitment to racial, gender, and economic justice and their intersections
  • Ability to weave storytelling, narrative change, and share the powerful message of BFF with current and potential donors to expand the critical mission of BFF
  • Enthusiasm to propose fresh ideas without prompting by leadership, openness to feedback on those ideas, and persistence to bring those ideas to life
  • An excellent working knowledge of CRM systems for donor and revenue management, preferably EveryAction
  • Experience with and knowledge of the social justice funder community is preferred

  • A strong demonstrated commitment to our Black feminist values and to shifting the material conditions for Black women, girls, and gender-expansive people in the U.S. & across the diaspora
  • A desire to promote a culture of philanthropy in and around Black Feminist Future
  • A proven track record in leading fundraising within a nonprofit organization [with a preference for combined c3 and c4 experience]
  • Strong experience using a race, class, and gender lens in verbal and written communications
  • An awareness of and relationships with funders and a strong network of contacts across social justice movement spaces
  • Prior experience successfully managing staff and building out teams
  • A “self-motivator” and goal-driven mentality, and are excited to initiate donor visits, fundraising calls, and funder outreach to promote Black Feminist Future and build/sustain external relationships
  • A proven track record of managing multiple staff who work on a variety of projects in tandem
  • Outstanding time management and organizational skills, with careful attention to detail and accountability for meeting deliverables and deadlines in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment
  • Dedicated to data and systems and ready to utilize and streamline BFF’s systems to project manage all development work for the organization
  • Well-developed emotional intelligence and communication skills and have strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Ability and willingness to travel regularly

About Location, Travel, Compensation and Benefits

  • Salary: $105,000 - $140,000 commensurate with experience
  • Remote position (Note: BFF is a hybrid organization based in Atlanta, GA, with staff working both remotely and in-office. BFF hosts some mandatory in-person staff and team meetings and in-office visits during the year)
  • 35% of travel is expected, including but not limited to BFF’s weeklong semiannual all-staff advances, occurring in the spring and fall of each calendar year, one executive and two senior leadership retreats, as well as attendance at departmental advances the Senior Director oversees. Intermittent travel related to BFF programming needs may also occur.
