    Organizational Information:

    The Boulder Climbing Community (BCC) is a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to stewarding climbing areas across Colorado’s Front Range. Headquartered in Boulder, Colorado, the BCC’s mission is to mobilize the local community and partners to care for the environments we impact as climbers and enrich the outdoor experience for all. We do this by building sustainable climbing access trails, replacing aging hardware, mitigating human waste, conducting eagle monitoring, and advocating for climbers along the entire Front Range.

    Position Summary:

    This is a full-time position based in Boulder, Colorado, with a hybrid in-office/work-from-home workplace.

    The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors. As the chief executive of the organization, you will be responsible for executing the strategic vision, fundraising, overseeing all programs, managing staff and human resources, and maintaining accurate budgets and financial reports. This position requires that you champion the core values of the BCC and represent the organization positively in all community interactions. The Executive Director will frequently speak on behalf the BCC and thus the Executive Director must thrive at being the face of the organization.

    Key Duties & Responsibilities

    Directional time allocation percentages are listed for the areas of responsibility described below. These are intended to provide context to applicants and are not prescriptive.

    Fundraising & Community Outreach (30-50%)

    • Lead fundraising, including donor cultivation, annual campaigns, events, and grant writing, to ensure financial sustainability, meet or exceed budget targets, and build the organization’s cash reserve.
    • Elevate the BCC’s profile so supporters feel valued, informed, and personally connected to the organization’s work.
    • Strengthen and create new relationships with individual donors, expand the BCC’s membership base, and develop strategic partnerships with foundations, corporate sponsors, community organizations, and other industry stakeholders.
    • Serve as the face of the organization and primary spokesperson, representing the mission to members, partners, media, and the wider community.

    Organizational Management & Leadership (20-40%)

    • Translate strategic plans into actionable annual operational plans with clear KPIs.
    • Hire, supervise, and coach a small team of talented staff, providing clear objectives, informal feedback, formal performance reviews, and professional development opportunities.
    • Foster a culture of inclusion, collaboration, and excellence among staff and volunteers.
    • Manage day-to-day operations, including HR compliance and benefits administration.
    • Monitor cash flow and maintain accurate financial records in partnership with the bookkeeper.
    • Ensure compliance with all legal, tax, and nonprofit regulatory requirements, implement best practices for risk management and governance.

    Strategic Planning & Board Engagement (10%-30%)

    • In partnership with the Board, lead the process to develop the BCC’s next strategic plan.
    • Present annual organizational goals and priorities to the Board, collaborate with the Board to strengthen governance, recruit and onboard new Board members, and support Board Members’ engagement and effectiveness.
    • Provide regular updates, ensure transparency and alignment on key initiatives and financial reporting.
    • Lead the annual budgeting process in partnership with the Treasurer, Finance Committee, and bookkeeper.

    Program Area Management (10%-30%)

    • Act as the organization’s primary point of contact for advocacy matters, collaborating with the Advocacy Chair and committee to advance the mission.
    • Build and sustain relationships with partner organizations, land managers, and other stakeholders to expand the organization’s influence and impact.
    • Get your hands dirty by playing a visible role in the organization’s programs: trail building, rebolting, eagle monitoring, and human waste mitigation.
    • Enthusiastically participate in and, in some cases, plan and lead key community events.

    Required Qualifications

    • 5–7+ years of increasing responsibility in nonprofit or for-profit leadership, including staff supervision and organizational management
    • Demonstrated success in fundraising or revenue growth — experience with major gifts, campaigns, and/or grant writing preferred
    • Proven ability to quickly build community relationships and/or an existing deep connection to the outdoor recreation community on the Front Range
    • Strong financial acumen, including budget creation and oversight, and financial data analysis
    • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with experience collaborating with a Board of Directors or advisory group
    • Passion for advancing the BCC’s mission, and a commitment to equity, community, and a positive climbing culture

    Preferred Qualifications

    • 4-year degree in a related field (such as nonprofit management, business administration, public administration, or similar) or relevant career experience
    • Experience with various CRM or donor-management software tools (Salesforce)
    • Experience with financial management software (QuickBooks)

    Benefícios

    • The annual salary range for this position is $70,000 - $90,000, commensurate with experience, and is eligible for an annual performance-based bonus
    • Generous time off allowance of 6 weeks, including 13 paid holidays and 17 days of PTO
    • A flexible hybrid work environment, with office space in the heart of Boulder
    • Applicants outside the Boulder/Denver metro area are encouraged to apply; however, the BCC does not offer relocation assistance
