    Title: State Democracy Policy Intern

    Duration: Up to 12 Weeks - Expected January 20 - April 10, 2026

    Schedule and Compensation: Up to 40 hours per week; $17.95 per hour

    General Description:

    The League of Conservation Voters, Inc. (“LCV”), a non-profit organization, builds political power to protect people and the planet. We envision a world in which tackling the climate crisis, confronting environmental injustice, and strengthening our democracy lead to cleaner and healthier communities, good, well-paying jobs, and a more just, equitable, and sustainable planet for all.

    For more than 50 years, LCV has grown into a potent political force for protecting our planet and our democracy. We have built a powerful national movement with over 30+ state affiliates across the country. We do so by working with and holding elected officials accountable, mobilizing, organizing, and building grassroots power in communities, electing candidates who share our values, and partnering with and supporting our 30+ state affiliates across the country.

    LCV is seeking a State Democracy Policy Intern who will support the Senior Director of State Policy & Democracy in working with LCV and our 30+ state affiliates, collectively referred to as the Conservation Voters Movement (CVM), to support our network-wide democracy and voting rights program that advances bold policies at the state level. They will provide valuable support to state affiliates and the LCV democracy team, offering timely assistance to states, legislation tracking, and research for policy papers on priority issues. The State Democracy Policy Intern will also play a supporting role in collecting resources, identifying state legislative victories, and facilitating coalition spaces.

    The State Democracy Policy Intern will join a Spring 2026 internship cohort that will participate in development opportunities, including a Capstone project, informational interviews with staff, and organization-wide training and discussions.

    This position is classified as “Regular Remote Work”, which means the position is not assigned to an office and can work remotely full-time.

    General working conditions:

    • Operate in a professional office or home office environment, and routinely use standard office equipment including, but not limited to, computers, phones, photocopiers, and audiovisual systems.
    • Largely sedentary, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
    • Communicates with internal and external stakeholders using electronic platforms.

    Applicants need to be located in and legally authorized to work in the United States. Applicants must reside in the location listed above.

    Intern Will Gain Experience in:

    • Supporting state partners in voting rights and democracy policy advocacy.
    • Incorporating racial justice and equity into policy and ensuring these principles are applied throughout team processes.
    • Researching policy papers on priority democracy issues for 2026 legislative sessions.
    • Drafting regular and comprehensive reports of state affiliate activities.
    • Tracking legislation and press related to priority issues.
    • Facilitating cross-state collaboration.

    Qualifications:

    • Experience: Experience, education, or other knowledge-base in voting rights and democracy policy.
    • Skills: Highly organized; strong attention to detail; excellent communications skills; strong research skills; exhibits solid judgment; critical thinking skills; able to work independently and as a team; able to handle multiple tasks; self-starter; proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite.
    • Racial Justice and Equity Competencies: Demonstrated awareness of how one’s life experiences influence one’s personal attitudes, biases, and assumptions. Demonstrated commitment to continual learning and ability to successfully deliver culturally responsive services. Commitment to equity and inclusion as organizational practice and culture. Understands how environmental issues intersect with racism, economic and social inequality in the U.S. and has a passion for working to dismantle these systems. Commitment to environmental protection and mission of LCV.
